Open Gym (& Amazing Foam Pit!) at PG Sports & Learning Complex

Open Gym Time!

If you haven’t checked out Prince George’s County Sports and Learning Complex in Landover yet with your energetic 1-12 year old(s), then let this winter be the season you do so! This place is HUGE and heir “gymnastics workshops,” i.e. open gym, is a time when kiddos can run around and try their acrobatic skills on equipment usually reserved for budding / training gymnasts – for the most part. They can jump, swing and bounce along to their hearts’ content, just like these kiddos below!

Lots of fun ways to burn some energy up when tearing it up outside is not an option. And the place is so big and equipment varied that your 3-year old can be having a blast in the small foam pit while your 7-year old is safely going bonkers in the huge foam pit. The open gym is for an hour, which we’ve found to be the perfect amount of time for the kids to explore the equipment and wear themselves out.

Tips for Open Gym

While the the open gym time slots do vary, they typically hit up against nap time, so I usually pack a lunch and eat it in one of the seating areas near the complex’s entry; thereby increasing my chances of a solid nap on the ride back home. Another option would be to head to Wegmans (about a 5 minute drive) – because Wegmans has food and is AMAZING. (Spend enough time in Upstate NY and you, too, will become a Wegmans fan.)

Additional Information

Adults are free and must accompany children at all times – so no drop-offs, mkay?  Registration begins half an hour prior to the start of a gym workshop and is on a first-come, first-served basis. That said, we’ve arrived five minutes before on occasion and have never had an issue gaining entry on a weekday (haven’t tried weekend yet).

Hours

While Gymnastics Workshops generally occur Tuesdays & Wednesdays 11:30am-12:30pm; Fridays: 4:30-5:30pm & Saturdays 1:30-2:30pm, the best thing to do is to call ahead to inquire – 301-583-2400 – especially as the website is not reliable. 😩 Just a bit of real talk for y’all. (Per 7/8/19 phone call, summer hours are Tuesdays 11:30am-12:30pm & Fridays 6-7pm. Though do call (301-583-2400) to confirm.)

Location

Prince George’s County Sports and Learning, 8001 Sheriff Road, Landover

Cost

$7 per child.

After reading your blog, we went and had a great time. It is very spacious and everyone is laidback. I wish it were open for longer than one hour increments, but we will definitely return.
