Route 1 Kids Weekend Activities: Jan. 10th-12th

Route One Fun’s Kids Weekend Guide’s got all the family-friendly things to do along the Route 1 Corridor this weekend!

Kids gather around for Storytime in Mount Rainier

Storytime in Mount Rainier!

Gather around for storytime in Mount Rainier, Pinball in College Park, Freestyle Art in neighboring Woodridge, Winter Walk in Upper Marlboro and more! Check it out and tell a friend!

Friday

Storytime @ The Waterhole (Ages 0-5)
Roll out of bed & hop into this fab, woman-owned, organic juice bar. Let the librarians from down the street entertain your kiddos! Stories fresh off the library bookshelves, tunes to wiggle to & more!
When: 10-10:30am
Where: The Waterhole, Mount Rainier
Cost: Free!, juice sold separately

Open Gym Time @ PG Sports Complex (Ages Walking to 12)
It’s open play! Lots of obstacle courses, trampolines, ropes & more for kiddos to explore. Parents can frolic in the gym arena too! Check out our fun time here!
When: 4:30-5:30pm
Where: PG Sports & Learning Complex, Landover
Cost: $7/participant

Xtreme Teens: Sports at Night (Ages 10-17)
Join us for a fun field day! Basketball, football, soccer, bean bag toss & kickball! With all that activity you’ll be working up a sweat! Light refreshments provided. Hope to see you there!
When: 7-10pm
Where: College Park Youth Services Center, College Park
Cost: Free! w/ MNCPPC youth ID

Australia Relief Fundraiser at Vigilante Coffee

Saturday

PINBALL! (Ages 5+)
Over 29 pinball machines to choose from! Young’n plays pinball while you enjoy some fresh coffee or tea from their Witches Brew Cafe. Or you play pinball, too!
When: 9am-9pm
Where: MOM’s College Park
Cost: Up to you! (Bring dollars/quarters (they have a change machine). Most games are 50 cents to play.)

Winter Walk: The New Year (All Ages)
Start 2020 off on the right path! 😉 Take a leisurely walk through the woods w/ a Naturalist as your guide. Don’t forget your water bottle & zen!
When: 10am-12pm
Where: Patuxent River Park, Upper Marlboro
Cost: $3/participant 

Open Gym (Ages 2-6)
Great way to burn energy @ this teacher-led class. Helps kids develop physical movement, fine & gross motor skills. Grow their attention span too! Combo of structured sports-like games & open play. Check out our time here!
When: 11:15am-12:45pm
Where: Joe’s Movement Emporium, Mount Rainier
Cost: $10 

2nd Saturday Workshop: Freestyle (All Ages)
Express yourself on canvas! No experience necessary. All are welcome! Hyattsville artist will lead the visual art workshop. Create your masterpiece w/ acrylic paint, free-flowing lines & imagination! Materials provided.
When: 1-4pm
Where: ArtEnables, Washington, DC
Cost: Free! 

Crafternoon: Make Snow People! (Ages 5-12)
Alas we saw snow this week! Come out for crafts & make mini snow people with the folks @ the library to take home.
When: 2-3pm
Where: Hyattsville Library, Hyattsville
Cost: Free! 

Keystone Theater Cabaret (All Ages)
Join a local theater group run by high school students & College Park Arts Exchange for a cabaret of student performances.
When: 6:30-8:30pm
Where: Old Parish House, College Park
Cost: Free!

Sunday

Gametime @ Board & Brew
With over 500 board games including Operation, Perfection, Hungry Hippos, etc., you’ll easily have a good time! Speaking of eating up, they also have a good menu of kid-friendly options. And for my fellow coffee afficionados, they rotate between Vigilante, Mad Cap and Counter Culture coffee – so you’ll be sure to get a tasty brew while you’re there!
When: Opens at 7 am
Where: 8150 Baltimore Ave, College Park
Cost: (Before 4pm) $2.50 p/ adult for games (so you pay $2.50, your child is free) + the cost of whatever you may order from menu.

Music Together Class (Ages 0-5)
Looking for a fun music and movement activity for a chilly winter morning? Register to try a class and learn more about Music Together!
When: 11:00
Where: Ballet, Tap and All That Jazz, Hyattsville)
Cost:  Free for a one-time demo class, register here.

Kidz Graffiti Party
It’s time to get messy! Let your kids have at it. Two time slots to choose from. They’ll go to town painting a wall. Jamming tunes playing in the background & adults welcome to hang in the lounge!
When: 12:30-2pm, 2-3:30pm
Where: ArtJamz Dupont Studio, Washington, DC
Cost: $15

Portrait Story Days: Albert Einstein
Drop by, hear a story & create art inspired by someone in the Gallery’s collection. Such a cool way to interact w/ a museum in a new way! While there, check out the kids Explore! Room.
When: 1-4pm
Where: National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC
Cost: Free! 

Public Ice Skating Session (All Ages)
A must-do winter activity. Patron your local ice rink, enjoy hot chocolate afterwards @ home next to a warm fire (if you’ve got one!). Fire screensavers work too, but only if the crackling sound effect is in play.
When: 2-4pm
Where: Herbert Wells Ice Rink, College Park
Cost: $4 (Ages 17 and under), $5 (Ages 18-59), $2 skate rentals
