Holiday Trains and Planes this weekend at the College Park Aviation Museum!

Route 1 Kids and families have weekend full of fun activities to choose from! Holiday Trains and Planes in College Park, Basketball Tourney & Arts/Crafts in North Brentwood, Spirit of Northern Lights in DC, STEM fun in Laurel, Santa in Hyattsville and more inside Route One Fun’s latest Weekend Guide!

Friday Fun Along Route 1

Ready to Read Storytime (Ages 0-5)
A Friday fave. Stories, socialization, and juice. Fresh juice that is. Sounds like the makings for a kids’ book club or perhaps coffee hour sans the caffeine (‘course if you need your boost, they sell that too!) Read here 
When: 10-10:30am
Where: The Waterhole, Mount Rainier
Cost: Free!, drinks sold separately 

Holiday Trains & Planes
A child’s dream come true! A model train exhibit full of life. Take your time checking out all the scenes and details in the constantly moving display. You won’t be disappointed!
When: 10am-5pm
Where: College Park Aviation Museum, College Park
Cost: Free! w/ museum admission 

Gymnastics Workshop (Walking to 12 years)
Burn some energy w/ open gym play @ the sports complex. Arena includes giant foam pit, slides, trampolines, and more! First-come, first-served. Parents must accompany kids AND have fun 😉 (trust us, you will!) Read here 
When: 4:30-5:30pm
Where: Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex, Landover
Cost: $7/participant

Xtreme Teens: Basketball Tournament & Arts & Crafts (Ages 10-17)
Play some b-ball w/ new and old buds. Dabble in a little arts and crafts. It’s Friday – have fun!
When: 7-10pm
Where: North Brentwood Community Center, North Brentwood
Cost: Free! w/ MNCPPC youth ID

Saturday Fun Along Route 1

Breakfast With Santa
Who doesn’t love free breakfast w/ their good ole friend St. Nick? Don’t miss out on breaking bread together. The city is saving a spot at the table for you!
When: 10am-2pm
Where: Cottage City Town Hall, Cottage City
Cost: Free! 

Engineering 101 (Ages 9+)
Since the dawn of aviation, airplane engineers have been competing to see who can build the best airplane. Now it’s your turn. Design your aircraft, pick your materials, and see if you can build the best aircraft.
When: 11am
Where: College Park Aviation Museum, College Park
Cost: $5 (includes museum admission)

Pajama Party w/ Santa & Friends 
Grab your pjs and head to the sports complex for holiday fun. Crafts, storytelling, holiday music, games and more! Pics w/ Santa!
When: 11am-2pm
Where: Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex, Landover
Cost: $12/child, $16/adult (pics w/ Santa addtl nominal fee)

Holiday Ornament Workshop (All Ages)
Deck the halls w/ a DIY keepsake holiday ornament. Special paper and guidance provided. Come together this holiday @ the arts center!
When: 2-4pm
Where: Gateway Arts Center, Brentwood
Cost: Free!

Sunday Fun Along Route 1

Aurora: The Spirit of Northern Lights (All Ages)
This is going to be cool. Immersive, interactive multi-room experience. Travel through a northern forest & virtually experience the northern lights. Let the magic unfold!
When: 10am-5pm
Where: Artechouse, Washington, DC
Cost: $8-$20, under 2 free!

Santa Photos 
It’s not too late to dress the kids up and get your annual photos w/ Santa. They can make their final wishes and convince Santa they’ve been nice all year. 😉 You get photos that are cuter than a button!
When: 12-6pm (Santa breaks 2-2:30pm)
Where: The Mall @ PG Plaza, Hyattsville
Cost: $15.99-$49.99, depending on photo package

Indoor Fun @ Laurel’s Diven’s Den
Great spot to hang w/ the fam. STEAM inspired learning space w/ Laurel history flavor. We’ve loved our visits here. Perfect activity for a cold winter day! Read here
When: 1-4pm
Where: Laurel Museum, Laurel
Cost: Free! 

Tree Light Show Presented by Chase
56-foot tree and two million twinkling lights along the waterfront district. Dreaming of a white Xmas? They’ve got snowfall in the show too!
When: 5:30-9pm, show every half hour
Where: National Plaza, Oxon Hill
Cost: Free!

    Riverdale Park Station is having photos with Santa on Saturday. Last year it was super nice! Recommend checking it out to people who still want to visit with saint Nick!
