Kennedy Center Chinese New Year event for families

Friday

Indoor Rock Climbing (All Ages)
A climbers delight! 3-hours of scaling fun! Equipment & basic instruction included! Walls of obstacle courses, plus play area for wee ones. Snacks on site. Get discounts on their website!
When: 10am-9pm
Where: Climbzone Laurel, Laurel
Cost: $25 ages 6+; $12 ages 2-5, under 2 free w/ paid admission

New-to-you Frontier Fort Playground

Cost: Free!

Explore! at the National Portrait Gallery
Bring the kid(s) to one of the coolest museums in DC! Follow my itinerary in here, including a stop-off at their Explore! Room and you’ll be all set to have a great time!
When: 11:30am-6pm
Where: National Portrait Gallery, DC
Cost: Free!

Rock N’ Roll Revival Auditions today, 4-6pm at Impulse City, Hyattsville!

Great opp to check out this well-regarded local preschool this Friday & Saturday!

Saturday

Wegmans Wonderplace
Does your kiddo love grocery stores or stacking (and perhaps hoarding) play vegetables? Then this is the place for you all! Located inside the National Museum of American History, this free spot will keep your kiddo occupied for a good hour or so – then you can all check out the rest of this amazing museum!
When: 10am-4pm
Where: National Museum of American History, Washington DC
Cost: Free!

Roller Skating Open Skate (All Ages)
Grab your skates & go! Or, rent a pair, lace up & take to the rink. Several open skate sessions to enjoy!
When: 10am-12pm, 1-4pm, 7-10pm
Where: Laurel Roller Skating Center, Laurel
Cost: $8-$10.25 admission, $4 skate rental

Chinese New Year Family Day
Free activities for all ages including arts and crafts, traditional costume photo booth, zodiac stickers, demonstrations of sugar painting and wood block printing, magic shows and more.
When: 1:30-4:30pm
Where: Kennedy Center, DC
Cost: Free!

Read to Rover (Ages 5-12)
Sign your kid up for reading to a trained therapy dog. The dog gets attention, your kid gets practice reading! Bring a book or choose one @ the library. Call to register for a 15 min session!
When: 1:30-2:30pm
Where: Laurel Library Branch, Laurel
Cost: Free! 

37th Annual Choreographers Showcase (All Ages)
Check out the upcoming dance choreographers in the DC-area as they showcase their talent on a professional stage. Vote for Audience Choice Award, a special trophy by The Clarice!
When: 3pm, 8pm
Where: The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, College Park
Cost: $25 regular, $10 student/youth

Sunday

Bladensburg Waterfront Park
Kiddos can hit up the playground by the entrance, monkey about in the old B & O caboose, skip along the Anacostia River Trail, then pick up some cool stones to paint later when you return home.
When: Sunrise to Sunset
Where: Start at BWP, 4601 Annapolis Road, Bladensburg
Cost: Free!

Young Yogis Class (Ages 4-9)
Our little friends need to unwind, too. Bring em’ in for some yoga poses! Build self-confidence, connect w/ others, harness breath & practice relaxation & focus! Never too early to start!
When: 11am-12:30pm
Where: Love Yoga Studio, Hyattsville
Cost: $20 drop-in 

Family Fun Bowling Bash
An awesome time will be had by all at this bowling bonanza brought to you by the city of College Park. Great deals including games, equipment & food! No reservations required!
When: 1-4pm
Where: Bowlero, College Park
Cost: $5/person for first 100 College Park residents, $10/person everyone else

Chinese New Year Parade
Our dynamic community-based parade will include traditional lion and dragon dances, Kung Fu demonstrations, firecrackers, live music and marching bands, beauty pageant winners, VIPs, and other community talents!
When: 2pm
Where: DC (starts at 6th & I Street NW)
Cost: Free!

Puppet Show: A Fox’s Tale (Ages 3-10 )
It’s a puppet show! Join Fox & his friends on a fun journey of forest exploration. Who goes there at night? Find out! Register in advance (required), call 301-497-5887!
When: 2-2:30pm
Where: National Wildlife Visitor Center, Laurel
Cost: Free! (we think…)

Special Sunday Open Gym 
Play in the kid-geared open gym area. You & your child will have fun in a safe environment! Lots of jumping, tumbling, rolling, climbing & all sorts of other potential!
When: 3-4pm
Where: SilverStars Gymnastics, Bowie
Cost: $9/child
