Hopping on the Metro with the kids and heading in to explore DC is one of the great benefits to living along the Route 1 Corridor. We recently did just so on a quest to check out “Saturday Morning at the National,” a live theatre series of free and interactive family programs at the National Theatre. Another great, indoor fun option for Route 1 Kids – with The Nutcracker coming up on Saturday, December 14th and ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas on Saturday, December 21st.
Searching for fun, free indoor spaces to explore with the kids during the colder fall and winter temps (or maybe just over Thanksgiving weekend? Then check out the Watkins Nature Center in Upper Marlboro! The Center is full of hands-on exhibits and live animal displays – perfectly sized for pint-sized preschoolers and older kids. Searching for fun, free things to do near the Route 1 Corridor on Tuesday mornings with the infant, toddler and preschooler children? Tuesday Circle Time at the Takoma Park Maryland Library, full of books, songs, and rhymes, comes highly recommended from local (really, global) superstar Mandy Sheffer.
Route 1 and DC families with preschoolers are clamoring for more open gym, indoor play areas. A place where infant, toddlers and preschoolers can run, jump, climb and tumble without costing us an arm and a leg. Thankfully, at just $5 per child, the Pre-Schoolers Open Gym at Fairland Sports and Aquatic Complex in Laurel is a great place to do just that! We checked it out earlier this month and had a blast! More on our time at this Preschool Open Gym below!
