Then head on over to College Park’s Holy Redeemer for its Harvest Bazaar where the kids can play some games while you check out the White Elephant Sale! Greenbelt’s Makerspace is hosting is fun Little Makers program and Laurel‘s got its own STEAM challenge – and that’s just Friday, people!?! University Park’s Veteran’s Day Observance
The University Park Civic Association has arranged a short program to honor all who served in the armed forces of the United States. There will be a tent, chairs, the National Anthem with singers from the University Park Elementary School, the Northwestern High School JROTC Color Guard, and remarks from two local veterans. Come, participate, and linger after for coffee and apple pie with your neighbors.

Riverdale Park’s Veteran’s Day Observance
The Town of Riverdale Park will host a Veterans Day Memorial Service this Friday. There will be light refreshments at Town Hall following the ceremony. Please come out to support and Honor our service men and women.

STEAM Eggdrop & Airplane Challenge
Kids aged 10-17 will come up with different ideas on protecting their egg from a high fall by using different types of materials and supplies. Eggs and supplies provided. Children will build paper airplanes and add coins for cargo to see who can fly the furthest distance. All supplies will be furnished.

Little Makers @ Greenbelt Makerspace!
Join Greenbelt Makerspace’s project for children ages 2 – 6. Kids work together with their parents/caretakers to craft, create, invent, and explore! Today, Little Makers will be crafting with magic clay! We’ll provide all the materials – markers, paints, scissors, glue, etc. – so just show up and have fun!

Check out this free program for children 3-7 years old (parent/guardian supervision required), featuring Culture Queen where young learners can explore multicultural heritage through story-telling, music, movement/dance, and arts & crafts.

Experience the Old Line State in a new way. Kids of all ages can take a “feet-on” approach to geography. National Geographic certified educators will supervise this drop-in event designed to increase geographic awareness. What better way to teach young people the power of maps and the limitless depth of geography than a giant map of Maryland on which they can explore, hop around, compete, collaborate and have lots of fun?

Ages 16+: Are you interested in learning 3D design? Would you like to learn how to use a 3D printer? Come check out Brentwood Arts Exchange’s new MakerBot and learn the basics of 3D printing. You’ll come away from this class with your very own three dimensional object!

Heroes Bowl
Come out to the Sixth Annual Hyattsville Heroes Bowl where the Hyattsville City Police Department (the Finest) will take on the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department (the Bravest). Bring a new unwrapped toy or cash donation to benefit community children who otherwise would not receive gifts this holiday season. There will be a 50-50 raffle, and refreshments and t-shirts for sale.

National Harbor Tree Lighting Ceremony
National Harbor kicks off its holiday movie series with giveways, live music, and an outdoor screening of the 1989 family film “Prancer,” about an 8-year-old girl who finds what she believes is one of Santa’s injured reindeer. Movie followed by pictures with Santa, performances and fireworks.

The Wisdom of Old Houses
Ages 5+. In 18th century Maryland, smart phones, smart tvs, and smart cars hadn’t been invented yet. But they had a lot of smart PEOPLE, who made some very clever stuff! Houses for example. It took many, many skilled people to build Montpelier. Through hands-on activities, experimentation, and observation, you’ll learn some of the secrets of early American designers and laborers, and why Montpelier is still called one of the finest houses in Maryland.

St. Martin’s Day Lantern Festival
Enjoy a traditional German celebration which involves making beautiful paper lanterns and culminates in an outdoor walk at twilight. Your family will love this annual tradition!
