FRIDAY

Storytime PopUp! @ The Waterhole
Stories, songs, fingerplays and more at this innovation collaboration between PGCMLS & Mt. Rainier’s fabulous organic juice & smoothie joint. Best for 0-5 years old. Curious? Click here for my review of The Waterhole! Afterwards, why not head to Mt. Rainer Nature Center (info below)!

Cost: Free (Heads-up: Waterhole’s menu is delish, highly recommend indulging!)

Mt. Rainier Nature Center
Check out some hands-on exhibits, live animals, educational displays, a play area and more at this fun, free, petite, local site. For a sneak peek, read about our time here!

STEM-Fun at Diven’s Den
Check out this new-to-you STEM-inspired playroom, teaching the kiddos about life in 1800s Laurel. Curious? Read my review of Diven’s Den!

Indian Creek Playground
Any time this weekend, check out this really fun and creative playground designed after Berwyn Heights’ earliest residents – a group of Algonquian people known as Nacotchtank. Kiddos will have a blast climbing teepees, in an out of canoes and up and down dream catchers. If you get hungry afterwards, check out

Gymnastics Workshop
This place is really great for 1-12 year olds! HUGE. Two climbing walls. Two foam pits. Tons of equipment for curious ones to explore and blow off some steam. Very clean. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parents are required to be on the floor with the children (Maximum 3 child:1 adult). Check out my review here!

Xtreme Teens: Tacos and Taco Salad (Ages 10-17)
Join us as we celebrate the month of Cinco De Mayo with distinctly-flavored Mexican cuisine. Grab your friends and make a beeline for this event to enjoy making tacos and taco salads exactly how you like them. Deliciously tasty!!!When: 7-10pm

SATURDAY 

Photo-Adventure Scavenger Hunts (Beginner’s hunt 0.75 mile)
Using clues, individuals and/or groups can hunt on trails for sculptured stones, mystery plants and animals while learning about the history and features of the refuge. A camera or call phone is needed.
When: 9am-1pm
Where: Patuxent Research Refuge, North Tract, 230 Bald Eagle Drive, Laurel
Cost: Free!
Splash around Riverdale Park Station! 
Let the kids cool off and splash around the fountain at RPS! Bring some lunch or grab something from one of the local eateries. Can even make it a double-header with some time monkeying around the new playground at RPS! 
When: Sunrise to Sunset 
Where: Riverdale Park Station, Riverdale Park 
Cost: Free! 

Toddler Time @ Art Works Now
Open studio time for toddlers and their accompanying adults. Even the youngest children can explore a variety of age-appropriate art materials in a safe, fun environment. What to expect? Read my review of Toddler Time at Art Works Now.

Where: Art Works Now, 4800 Rhode Island Ave, Hyattsville

Fishing at Blue Heron Pond (Ages 6-15)
If you would like to fish one of our rarely seen ponds, please join us. We will provide the transportation, fishing poles and all the supplies. 
When: 10am-12pm

Family Movie Series: Mary & the Witches Flower (rated PG)

Young Mary follows a mysterious cat into the nearby forest and discovers an old broomstick and the strange Fly-by-Night flower, a rare plant that blossoms once every seven years.

Where: Old Greenbelt Theatre, Greenbelt 
Cost: $7/ticket 

Spanish-English Ready 2 Read Storytime (Ages 3-5)
Stories, fingerplays and songs will be presented in Spanish and English.

Raptor’s Reign
Join special guest and licensed falconer, Rodney Stotts, as he shares the power of nature through discussions and up close encounters with birds of prey.

Memorial Day Events & Observances Along Route One

SUNDAY 

Anacostia Riverwalk Trail – Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens
Head to Bladensburg Waterfront Park (BWP) and explore the 4-mile segment of the Trail now connecting the District with BWP! We packed lunches, parked at BWP and then walked the Trail all the way to Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. It was lovely! Grab a bit of respite at Kenilworth, maybe eat that lunch you packed and then head back to BWP, where the kids can play/climb/laugh in an old B & O caboose.
When: Sunrise to Sunset
Where: Start at BWP, 4601 Annapolis Road, Bladensburg
Cost: Free!

STEM for Families: Butterflies (Ages 5-12 w/ Adult)
Join us as we explore science through the life cycle of butterflies. Drop in for hands-on experiments and activities.
When: 1-5pm
Where: Hyattsville Library, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!

Family Movie Series: LEGO Batman
Watch on the waterfront! Seating not provided so bring some lawn chairs!
When: 6pm
Where: National Harbor, Oxon Hill
Cost: Free!
