We’re back! And with tons of great ideas on where to play near Maryland’s Route 1 Corridor this weekend! Jack & the Beanstalk Puppet Show, Blast-in-the-Past Playground, Wildlife for Tiny Tots, Baseball game & More!

Friday Kids Fun Near Route 1

Ocean-Themed Indoor Playground (Best for 0 – 8 y/o-ish)
Stay cool in this ocean-themed indoor playspace. The bright colors and aquatic art are sure to lure kids in for hours of physical activity. Check out our time at Hyper Kidz here.
When: 9am-9pm

Pop-Up Storytime @ Waterhole (Ages 0-5)
A fun alternative to storytime. Gather around library staff with kids books, music and props. Hear stories, sing songs and shake a little. Wash it all down with some fresh juice! Or bring your own snacks and park your strollers outside! More about The Waterhole here.
When: 10-10:30am
Where: The Waterhole, Mount Rainier
Cost: Free!, bring cash/cc for fresh juice

STEM-tastic: Exploring the Colors of the Universe (Ages 5-12)
Continuing with this summer’s library theme for kids, the Universe, come build a spectroscope, and learn about a tool used by astronomers to understand what objects in outer space are made from!
When: 3-5pm
Where: Hyattsville Library, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!

Gymnastic Workshops (Ages Walking to 12)
Burn some end of week energy at open gym play. No instruction, just free time in a space filled with gymnastics obstacles, foam pit, and more! Play area for small and older children. Adults can practice their gymnastics too! Our time at Open Gym here!
When: 6-7pm
Where: Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex, Landover
Cost: $7

Saturday Kids Fun Near Route 1

8th Annual Blast-in-the Past (All Ages)
Looking for a little history this summer? Why not check out the mansion-turned kid-sized colonial village! Plenty of hands on activities. Win a free pass by joining the Summer @ Your Library program through the public library!
When: 10am-3pm
Where: Montpelier Mansion Historic Site, Laurel
Cost: $2.50

Archaeology Dig Days (All Ages)
Come dig and screen for artifacts at a real excavation site once home to a Native American village, colonial town and plantation. Archaeologists will show you the ropes or take a self-guided tour of the museum and Patuxent riverfront property.
When: 11am-3pm
Where: Mount Calvert Historical and Archaeological Park, Upper Marlboro
Cost: Free!

Jack and the Beanstalk Puppet Show (All Ages)
Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum! Enjoy this classic English folktale, brought to life with beautifully hand-crafted puppets and sets, along with heart-warming music.
When: 2pm (run time 45 min)
Where: Takoma Park Library, Takoma Park
Cost: Free!

Kids and Dogs: Get Along and Stay Safe! (All Ages)
Let’s learn about dogs! How to prevent bites, what they like/dislike, how to read their body language, and how to greet them in public. Live demo dog onsite with the SPCA and Humane Society. Become closer to man’s best friend!
When: 3:30-4:30pm
Where: New Carrollton Library, New Carrollton
Cost: Free!

X-treme Teens: Hungry Hippo (Ages 10-17)
A new take on a classic game. It’s human hungry hippo! You and a teammate pair up to collect as many balls as you can in 10 seconds per round. Be prepared to move fast and have lots of laughs!
When: 7-10pm
Where: Good Luck Community Center, Lanham
Cost: Free! w/ youth MNCPPC ID

Sunday Kids Fun Near Route 1

Wildlife for Tiny Tots (Ages 16-48 months)
Fun time with the tots exploring, discovering, and learning about wildlife. Interactive songs, stories and activities. Parent participation and registration required, call 301-497-5887. Read our review of the wildlife refuge here!
When: 10:30-11:15am
Where: Patuxent Research Refuge, Laurel
Cost: Free!, donation greatly appreciated

Junior Legion/Sandlot Baseball All-Star Games (All Ages)
How about some All-Star baseball games at a Minor League stadium? Two Junior Legion games to catch, 15 years and under or 19 years and under, brought to you by the American Legion Department of Maryland State!
When: 11am-4pm
Where: Baysox Stadium, Bowie
Cost: $5, 12 and under free!

Splash Park (All Ages)
Nothing says summer like a dip in the pool. Kids will dig this place with a water slide, mushroom waterfall and kids pool area. Adults can get their laps in the bigger pool or just lounge around poolside. Perfect way to beat the heat!
When: 12-7pm
Where: Lane Manor Splash Park, Hyattsville

Seasonal Selections: Summer Bounty (All Ages)
Come check out the garden’s bounty and learn about cooking in an open hearth kitchen, 19th century style. Highlights include fresh fruit and vegetable recipes from the past!
When: 12:15-3:15pm
Where: Riversdale House Mansion, Riverdale Park
Cost: Free!
