Y’all ready for some rolled ice-cream?!? Thai ice-cream rolls that is? Us, too! 520 Ice Cream & Tea is bringing its Thai-inspired, homemade stir-fried ice-cream rolls to College Park later this year. With locations in Springfield and Fairfax in Virginia as well as locations in Rockville, Bethesda – this will be the fifth location in the DMV.
Thai-inspired Ice Cream Rolls
So just what is an ice-cream roll and can you eat it with your fingers? Our thoughts exactly. Great minds think alike. 😉 While the 520 website doesn’t go into much detail on the process, this great review by Nom Nom Boris after a trip to the Rockville location shares some insight into the process:
“[M]ilk and toppings are mixed on top of a steel plate that is so cold it’s below the freezing temperature and turns everything in the crystallized sheet and served with some extra toppings like cookies, candy, and oh so much more. The mixture is normally a soy or dairy milk with various toppings like fruit to make it healthy (lol) and other sweets for that extra sugar rush (yes!). Then everything is rolled into rolls.”
Ultimately, your treat may look something like below – which would be a treat indeed!
The shop will also serve tea. But we’re finding it hard to gush about tea when this delciousness is staring us in the face. Can’t. Look. Away.
