Thrift Store Donations? Salvation Army Hyattsville Reopens Saturday, 5/30
Many Route One Fun readers have been asking for information on local goodwill / thrift stores that are currently accepting donations. Up until today, we really didn’t have any word on such aside from a tip about Value Village in Adelphi accepting donations – which later turned out to not be the case (per email from store).
This morning, however, we received word that Salvation Army on Kenilworth Ave in Hyattsville is reopening this Saturday, May 30th, 9am-5pm and is accepting donations (as well as scheduling appointments for furniture donation pickups).
Maryland Yard Sign Celebrating Life and Praise for Essential Workers
Another great way to show your support for essential workers and give back to our local communities and put some lovely art in your yard = SoHy Co-op’s “Thank You” yard sign! This beautiful collaboration between SoHy Co-op and local artist Clara Cornelius produces a sign that celebrates Maryland flora and thanks for our essential workers all while raising funds for our community via the Hyattsville COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Fund.
Spilling the Beans on Vigilante’s Coffee Subscription
Love Vigilante Coffee but can’t always make it to Roastery or Cafe – especially right now? Then this post is for you!
Did you know that for the price of what you would pay for a bag of decent specialty coffee beans at say Whole Foods (not talking about Allegro; you can keep that dirty secret to yourself), you can have a bag of ethically and sustainably sourced coffee beans, hand-selected by Chris Vigilante himself, packaged in an environmentally responsible way and delivered right to your front door – even if that’s in Vermont – all while supporting a local small business who we all love and want to see thrive to infinity and beyond?!
Read more as we spill the beans on Vigilante Coffee’s subscription service in Route One Fun’s latest post!
Keller Williams Setting Up Shop in Hyattsville
The Route 1 corridor is adding an additional real estate business to its directory. Keller Williams Capital Properties appears set to open up shop at 4806 Rhode Island Ave in Hyattsville – the former location of Fecosasa Thrift Store. (Two more familiar, perhaps, points of reference close to this address would be Pizzeria Paradiso and Streetcar 82 Brewing Co. 🙂 )
Virtual Tip Jar: Help Our Local Baristas, Bartenders, Servers +
Many of us regularly patronize our amazing coffeeshops, bars, restaurants, tattoo salons and other businesses that have been ordered closed. Even as you practice social distancing, you can help support our local service industry staff. Consider sending a “tip” to your favorite bartender, barista, server, stylist, etc., via the SoHy Co-op’s Virtual Tip Jar. As of now, the list includes employees of Whistle Stop Studio, Streetcar 82 Brewing Co., Vigilante Coffee Co., Espaço Cultural Samba Trovão, Maryland Meadworks, Pizzeria Paradiso and Franklins Restaurant & Brewery. More to join, we’re sure!
