Snow Day! Where to Go Sledding Near Route 1

Possible snow day tomorrow! Here’s a list of great, kid-friendly hills for sledding in Hyattsville, Riverdale Park, University Park, Mount Rainier and Cheverly – as recommended by Route One Fun readers themselves!

Places to sled near Route 1 Corridor

Know of other places? Enter your recommendation in comments below and I’ll add to the list ASAP. (Previously, reader Jo Ann Capp was seeking recommendations for places in New Carrollton!)

As with all outdoor events in Prince George’s County, social distancing and face coverings are required.

Sledding in Cheverly

Caseyan Dave Kneipp recommends sledding at Cheverly Hospital Hill.

Sledding in College Park

“Alligator Park” at the end of College Ave near the Metro, per reader Kerry Kidwell-Slak. (I think this is also where the Old Town Playground is located.)

Jennifer Riggs shared a number of great options in College Park, including: Off the Trolley Trail in Calvert Hills (smaller hill good for young sledders), the UMD hill from the Chapel and Berwyn Heights Elementary, too!

Sledding in Hyattsville

Pamela O’Neal recommends sledding at Nicholas Orem Middle School as well as Edmonston Hill, by the creek.

Sledding in Mount Rainier

Katie Yaeger Rotramel recommends sledding at Barnard Hill Park, sandwiched between Bunker Hill Road and Eastern Avenue. Google Maps Link here for Barnard Hill Park.

Sledding in Riverdale Park

Readers Katie Monge, Alison Spain and Susan Sargent all recommended  sledding at Riversdale Mansion, with Katie sharing “there’s a big hill on the east side of the mansion. We had our 4-year old on it last year but it’s a fairly steep 25-foot hill. Great for little speed!”

Sledding in University Park

Abby McDermott recommends the hill behind the University Park Elementary School.
