Route 1 Weekend Guide: March 1st-3rd

This weekend along the Route 1 corridor: Creative Culture in North Brentwood, Glow in the Dark Dance in College Park, Mardi Gras 5K in Riverdale Park, University Park Elementary School’s Silent Auction, Schubert’s Mass in G in Hyattsville and more all inside Route One Fun’s latest Weekend Guide!

Friday Fun Along the Route 1 Corridor

Posh Glow in the Dark Happy Hour Dance Groove
Join for a night of Glow in the Dark instructional dancing to Latin, hip hop and pop music. Mocktails will be served!

Ravi Coltrane Quartet
That’s right; John’s Coltrane’s son, Ravi Coltrane, is playing at MilkBoy ArtHouse tonight. Do you really need to know anything else?

Saturday Fun Along the Route 1 Corridor

Mardi Gras 5K
Celebrate Mardi Gras at Riverdale Park Station. We’ll have a 5K race, 2 mile walk adn a 1K Kids Fun Run. Beads, King Cake, brass band and even Denizens beer for adult finishers!
When: 9am-11am

More Than A Month: Crafting Our Legacy
More Than A Month is a monthly social justice meetup, focusing on celebrating Black history, futures, activism and excellence all year round.
When: 11am-3pm
Where: Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural Center, North Brentwood
Cost: Free (register)

Redlining: A Patapsco Perspective
In this program, we will explore the history of structural racism and classism, how these designs compounded each other from redlining maps until today, and how we can come together to undesign these systems with intention. Specific insight will be given for examples in Howard County.
When: 2-5pm
Where Elkridge Library, 6540 Washington Blvd, Elkridge
Cost: Free

UPES PTA Silent Auction
Join neighbors, friends, family and everyone in between as we bid away on items while enjoying wine & beer and listening to music from a cappella group Capital Blend. More about this auction and its importance to our community here!
When: 6-9pm
Where: Wallace Presbyterian Church, 3725 Metzerott Rd, College Park
Cost: $10 entry

Sunday Fun Along the Route 1 Corridor

10th Annual Irish Celebration
Join St. Jerome’s community for this annual celebration of all things Irish! There will be traditional Irish food and drink, bake sale, entertaining pub songs, bagpipers and more. Kids can decorate cupcakes and don glitter tattoos for $1 each. Raffle drawing and more!
When: 2-6pm
Where: St. Jerome Academy, 5205 43rd Ave, Hyattsville
Cost: Free will offering at the door

Community Yoga
An informal group led by neighborhood instructors. Bring a mat – all levels, including those new to yoga are welcome. Questions? Email: rlgitter@gmail.com

Schubert’s Mass in G – Community Concert
The College Park Chorale joins the College Park Youth Orchestra to perform Schubert’s Mass in G as the finale of the concert. Presentation will feature vocal soloists, the College Park Chamber Choir and the full Chorale.
When: 7pm
Where: Northwestern High School, Hyattsville
Cost: Free

The Week Ahead on Route 1

  • Thursday evenings: Yarnia is a local-ish weekly knitting and crafting group that meets every week on Thursdays from 7-9 at Maryland Meadworks.
