Sunshine or rain, this weekend’s a delight! The Gateway Open Studio Tour is on your “must do” list, fo sho. Fractal Cat is doing its thing at Greenbelt’s New Deal Cafe. Mother’s Day Pamper Party happening at College Park’s Posh Cycling & Fitness & more – all inside Route One Fun’s latest Weekend Guide!

Friday 

Vigilante Coffee Cuppings
The public cupping is essentially an in-depth coffee tasting and an explanation of how a variety of factors can impact flavor. Bring a friend to learn and taste with us at this fun and interactive event!
When: 1-2pm
Where: Vigilante Coffee, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!

Hart GP Jazz (All Ages)
Come hear a recent UMD music student play live jazz with a trumpet (possibly guitar too!) at this ‘pocket park’. Food trucks ready to sell you dinner or some tasty snacks while you take in the show!
When: 6-7pm
Where: The Little Tavern Park, College Park
Cost: Free!, food & beverage for purchase

The Heidi Chronicles
A funny coming of age story for a student in the 1960s, guided by feminist principles, confronted with the true cost of “having it all.” A Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play, resonating with a generation experiencing feminism through the #MeToo and #TimesUp lens.
When: 7:30-10pm
Where: Kogod Theatre, The Clarice
Cost: $25 regular admission, $10 student/youth

Fractal Cat @ New Deal Cafe
A six-piece rock ensemble is coming your way. Classic songwriting, melodic vocals, and multilayered psychedelic rock. Enjoy original songs influenced by Chuck Berry and Pink Floyd.

Hyattsville Historic House Tour happening along Route 1 Corridor May 19th!

Saturday 

Green Housekeeping Workshop
It’s well into spring. City of College Park staff will give you tips on keeping your household clean, green and healthy! Light refreshments served.
When: 10am-12pm
Where: College Park City Hall, College Park
Cost: Free! (including parking)

The Art of Yoga
Talk about ideal venues. A yoga class inside the galleries of a historic mansion? Amazing! Bring a yoga mat. Afterwards, enjoy your yoga high, exploring art and the grounds at the mansion.
When: 11am-12:30pm
Where: Montpelier Mansion, Laurel
Cost: Free!

15th Annual Gateway Open Studio Tour (All Ages)
We’re talking art up and down the Route 1 corridor, people! It’s the annual visual arts festival, with double the number of spaces this year. Read more about the Gateway Open Studio Tour here.
When: 11am-5pm
Where: Gateway Arts District, Mount Rainier
Cost: Free!, art for purchase if you’d like

Brentwood Arts Exchange Open House Reception
Explore art spaces, learn about arts programs, and enjoy current exhibits. Shop at the craft store and purchase some mead from Maryland Meadworks in the courtyard!
When: 5-8pm
Where: Gateway Arts Center, Brentwood
Cost: Free!, beverages and art for purchase

Get to Know Your Bike Clinic
Learn basic bike maintenance like safety checks, parts replacement, and adjusting seats. Keep your bike in tip-top shape for maximum riding! Sign up here.

Silk Road Dance Company: Golden Road to Samarkand (All Ages)
An acclaimed dance performance set in a fabled city at the crossroads of many cultures. Be a part of this dazzling performance influenced by ancient Central Asian traditions!
When: 2pm, 8pm (two showtimes, same show)
Where: Joe’s Movement Emporium, Mount Rainier
Cost: $28 general admission, $17 seniors, students, veterans

Mother’s Day Pamper Party
For all the busy mom’s that need to relax and revive! Yoga, glamour photo shoot, makeup, and henna. Complimentary refreshments. You’ve earned it!

Campfire program: Tobacco Cash Crop of Maryland’s Past
Cozy up to a campfire discussion with park rangers and learn about Prince George County’s history in the tobacco farming industry and influence in the world market.

Sunday 

Native Garden Tour (All ages, rain or shine!)
Explore local gardens featuring Maryland native plants with garden hosts. Brainstorm ideas for how to grow them in your outdoor spaces. Visit gardens in any order! See the map here.

Where: Various gardens in Mount Rainier, Brentwood and Hyattsville

Mother’s Day at the Mansion: Chamber Music Concert & More
Today you’re VIP! Free tours for moms, grandmoms and other special ladies. Music with the US Army clarinet quartet, reception with artists. 18th and 19th-century cooking demos with the kitchen guild.
