Hispanic Heritage Film Series in Brentwood, Singer-Songwriters and Poetic Vibes in Mount Rainier, Paint Pour Pumpkins, Zombie Run and Hy-Fest #2 in Hyattsville, Celebrate Africa and Festival del Rio Anacostia in Bladensburg & more, all this weekend along Maryland’s Route One Corridor!

THURSDAY

Riverdale Park Farmers Market
One of my fave farmers markets! We love strolling around the Riverdale Park Farmers Market, buying some fresh, local produce, grabbing a bite from one of the vendors and then heading to Town Center Market for a tasty beverage.
When: 3-7pm
Where: 6204 Rhode Island Avenue, Riverdale Park, MD
Cost: No entry fee.

Hispanic Heritage Film Series: Los Rubios
Albertina Carri’s second feature is a documentary with fictional elements about the Argentine dictatorship of the 1970’s and 1980’s. It looks at Argentina’s recent history from the perspective of a generation forced to mourn those of whom they have no recollection.
When: 7-10pm
Where: Brentwood Arts Exchange, Brentwood
Cost: Free!

Thursday Night Music Series – Singer-Songwriters Sam McCormally and Will McKinley-Ward
Eat some good Mediterranean food, support a local Mt. Rainier restaurant and listen to local singer-songwriters Sam McCormally and Will McKinley-Ward. Always a fun time and can attest that their falafels, with some special sauce, will make you return for more!
When: 7-9pm

The Bassett Blowers
Come enjoy some classical tunes with the Bassett Blowers, a local UMD student-led trip featuring a clarinet, bassoon and horn and learn about the JTCC.

Paint Pour Pumpkins
Join us as we Paint pour pumpkins! Class fee is to make 2 paint pour pumpkins of your own.

SATURDAY

Third Hyattsville Zombie Run! 5K Race
Not just for kids! Hyattsville Zombie Run is a fun 5K race to raise money to support Hyattsville Elementary School. Dress up as a zombie or any Halloween costume to add to the fun!
When: 8:45-11am
Where: Magruder Park, Hyattsville

Festival del Rio Anacostia
Celebrate the outdoors and the Anacostia River. From hands-on activities, crafts, entertainment, delicious ethnic food and more, there’s something for everyone! Experience the outdoors with new eyes as you join nature walks, boat trips, and see local fish and birds close up. All activities are conducted in Spanish.
When: 11am-4pm
Where: Bladensburg Waterfront Park, Bladensburg
Cost: Free!

HyFest #2
HyFest is back and hy-er than before! This event is put together by a group of Hyattsville musicians focused on local music and highlighting the local arts scene. 5 bands + 2 breweries (Denizens and Streetcar 82) + food truck + vendors + Centipede arcade game!
When: 4pm
Where: Polka Dot Park, 4320 Hamilton Street, Hyattsville
Cost: $10 donation

Bamburia performs at Maryland Meadworks

Paint Branch Creek “In the Home of the Brave”
Paint Branch Creek presents an evening of original songs that reflect on where we’ve been, question where we’re going, and linger on old memories. Join the Paint Branch Creek “choir” 30 minutes before the show!

Poetic Vibes: The Body Edition Showcase
Poetic Vibes DC presents a showcase of poets, singers, and musicians performing pieces and works celebrating the uniqueness and nonconformity of gender, binary, and aesthetic sociological norms. This special edition of Poetic Vibes will serve as the closing reception BODIES.

Greenbelt Farmers Market

Check out this cool & big farmers market offering produce, pasture-raised meats, sustainable seafood, soaps, crepes, ice cream, breads and baked goods, goat cheese & more! When done shopping, head to the New Deal Cafe for some nosh and/or a coffee by Vigilante!
When: 10am-2pm

Celebrate Africa!
Bladensburg Waterfront Park will transform into an African marketplace when artists, storytellers, dancers and food vendors from Senegal to Somalia converge to celebrate Africa! Come dressed as your most glorious African garb and stroll the marketplace where kente cloth weavers and leatherworks will practice centuries-old art. Storyteller, sacred drumming, dancing, fashion show & more!
When: Sunday, October 14th, 12-5pm
Where: Bladensburg Waterfront Park, Bladensburg
Cost: Free!

Community Yoga
