Summer and all its steaminess is right around the corner. But you? You’re not steamy. Nah; you’re cool as a cucumber with shades on because you just joined the best pool around! The one whose olympic-sized swimming pool is surrounded by trees and open space….The one with fun events like Beer & Brauts night, Cannonball Contests and as much Pool-e-oke as is legally allowed! 😉 The family-friendly one that organizes Baby Pool Playdates by its kiddie pool and play area, S’mores Sundays and Teen Night? That’s right, you’ll be cooling down at the Adelphi Swimming Pool this summer!
But wait. What’s that? You haven’t signed up yet? Buds. The time is now. The Big Splash (opening day) is happening on May 23rd! Folks are signing up and spaces are running out. Which is why we’re here with this PSA of sorts to encourage you sign up on the Adelphi Pool website lickety split. Summers at the pool are honestly full of fun moments you’ll never forget. We know this because we’ve been happy members for years. Read on for more on the Adelphi Pool and how you can register today!
The Adelphi Pool
Never been to the Adelphi Pool before? Located inside the Beltway and with members from the surrounding towns of Adelphi, Beltsville, University Park, Hyattsville, College Park, Takoma Park, Silver Spring, and Washington, DC, you’ll be sure to find and make friends in no time! Speaking of, here’s a little bit about what you’ll find at the Adelphi Pool:
- A 50-meter Olympic size pool with multiple lap lanes, an 11-foot deep diving well, a slide, and a separate 30′ x 30′ fenced-in wading pool and play area for the wee ones;
- A bath house with locker rooms, showers, and a snack bar. The bathhouse is fully handicap accessible and has eight showers in the women’s locker room and five in the men’s locker room;
- Plenty of places to sit and relax or enjoy a picnic lunch — choose shade or sun! On the hill overlooking the pool is a shaded picnic area where families can enjoy food from home or cookout on one of the pool’s grills;
- Swimming lessons at the beginning of the season for your little ones, a swim team for the older kids, and water aerobics for those of us needing a little more exercise; &
- Volleyball, ping pong, badminton, and horseshoes.
Yoga, S’mores, Food Trucks & More!
In addition to the Adelphi Pool being THE spot to cool off in the summer, the pool’s amazing volunteer Recreation Committee makes sure that it’s also a great place to have fun! Whether it’s poolside Sun Salutations with Numi Yoga on Sunday mornings, S’mores Sundays, Watermelon Wednesdays, Crab Fest, monthly Book Club or weekday raft night, there’s always something fun to do at the Adelphi Pool!
(We should also mention that with so many local families there, being at the pool is like having playdate insurance!)
Adelphi Pool Swim Team
As if all of the above wasn’t enough, there’s also a swim team open to all pool members ages 4-18 years old to join! The Adelphi Dolphins are part of the Prince-Mont Swim League, an organization of 34 teams run completely by parent volunteers. The swim team roster includes swimmers with experience ranging from year round swimmers to those new to the sport. For emerging swimmers, there’s a pre-team program (Pod Squad). Evaluations are held the first week of practice, so be on the lookout!
Our eldest just joined the team last year and his swimming improved by leaps and bounds – or laps and laps! 🙂 On top of that, the camaraderie that’s shared between the swim team and their families is an experience that we’re so happy to be a part of.
