Route One Fun Kids Weekend Guide

Kids yoga at Hyattsville library and more fun this weekend!

Things to do this weekend with Route 1 Kids include free kids yoga in Hyattsville, CPNS’s Fun Fair in College Park, Community Drum Circle in Greenbelt and more! Check it out and report back on which fun activity from here you got up to!

Friday

Little Patuxent River Trail (All Ages)
Take a walk on the wild side 😉 We did w/ our little tyke & it was perfect. Picturesque easy walk on a trail w/ boardwalks. Riverside views & mini-nature center. Well, hello, turtles! Enjoy! (hopefully rain won’t keep you away!)
When: 8am-4pm
Where: North Tract Visitor Contact Station, Laurel
Cost: Free! 

Indoor Playground w/ Inflatables! (Ages 12 & under)
If it’s rainy on Friday,  you can always stay indoors & play! At this new playground w/ bouncers, sliders, jumpers & more. Check it out & let us know what you think!
When: 10am-6pm
Where: District Jump, technically Hyattsville – closer to Landover/Seat Pleasant area
Cost: $10-$12

Parent & Tot Skate (Ages 4 & under)
Want to hold onto winter sports as long as you can? Feel like a mini-road trip over to MoCo? Got a tot? Bring them over to this skate session. Great deal, pushing skate aids available – no extra charge!
When: 11:15am-12:15pm
Where: Cabin John Ice Rink, Rockville
Cost: $5 includes skate rental & session for 1 child & accompanying adult

Summer Camp 2020

Saturday

Binoculars DIY Workshop 
Calling all builders! Come make your own binos. They’ll go home w/ you along w/ a certificate, workshop apron & pin! (while supplies last…) Adults, you need to stick w/ your kids. It’ll be fun! Glue, hammer & build more together!
When: 9am-12pm
Where: Home Depot, Hyattsville
Cost: We think free!

CPNS Fun Fair 
Support a local school & have fun! Raffles, games, kids crafts, & silent auction! Food, too! Feature activity: flying monkey paper bag puppets. Make them!
When: 10am-2pm
Where: St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, College Park
Cost: We think free, plus some activities for fee 

Happy Lanterns (All Ages)
Help decorate 100 lanterns that will be displayed @ the National Harbor, celebrating Cherry Blossoms & the Water Lantern Festival!
When: 2:30-4pm
Where: ArtWorks Now, Hyattsville
Cost: Free! 

Yoga for Kids
Join certified instructor Crystal Mintz for a fun, relaxing kids yoga session. Kids become more body-aware, mentally focused, and gain strategies to ease anxiety. Mats will be provided.
When: 3-4pm
Where: Hyattsville Library, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!

Community Drum Circle (All Ages)
You’re invited! To a community drum circle. Bring your own drums, or they’ll have drums for you. You don’t have to be a drummer to join the fun! All levels welcome!
When: 3-5pm
Where: New Deal Cafe, Greenbelt
Cost: Free!, food & drink for sale 

Route One Fun Birthday Parties Guide

Sunday

National Children’s Museum (Ages 0-12)
Come spark your kid’s imagination & curiosity @ this STEAM-themed museum. Tickets are timed-entry & selling fast! BYO-snacks.
When: 9:30am-4:30pm (3:30pm is the last time slot)
Where: National Children’s Museum, Washington, DC
Cost: $10.95 

Sunday Fun-Day 
Popular workshop, themed around hit children’s books. This week’s theme is the story of Knufflebunny. Includes take-home item & parent pack, plus dramatic play, music, movement, & visual art while on site!
When: 11-11:45am
Where: Imagination Stage, Bethesda
Cost: $8/person 

Sew Stylish Sundays Kid’s Sewing: Fashion Sketching (Ages 7+)
Create fashionable projects. Learn sewing skills & fashion design. Workshop for beginners & intermediates. Come have fun while being creative! Supplies provided!
When: 3-5:30pm
Where: Stitched With Style, Capitol Heights
Cost: $40+

2020 Youth Musical (Teenagers+)
Come celebrate 20 years w/ the Greenbelt Youth Musical! Watch them showcase a talented teenage cast in an original musical production, “The School for Super-Heroes (in exile) Returns in Theseus and the Monster in the Maze”. It’s quite a story!
When: 3-5:30pm
Where: Greenbelt Community Center Auditorium, Greenbelt
Cost: $5

    Just to note that despite their address, District Jump isn’t anywhere near Hyattsville. Their location would be more appropriately described as Largo or Seat Pleasant.
