Turn the Tables at Studio SoHy this weekend

Opening reception for Turn the Tables this weekend!

Art openings, live music, film screenings, theatre, axe throwing & more happening along the Route 1 Corridor this weekend!

Friday

Dutch Country Farmer’s Market
Fresh & delicious food from Dutch country PA. Meats, cheeses, produce, candies, baked goods, soft pretzels, yogurts, & more! Prepared foods & sit down restaurant too. Get there early!
When: 9am-7pm
Where: Dutch Country Farmer’s Market, Laurel
Cost: Varies based on what you purchase 

Opening Reception: NOISE ON THE WALLS: Prints by Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr.
This Detroit-based artist is making quite an impression. Described as a printer & provocateur, come see his works that focus on issues of race, equality & artistic pretension. Opening reception!
When: 6:30-9pm
Where: Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!

Women Filmmakers Festival @ SAAM 
Discover work by local filmmakers. Films which share visions of female empowerment. Post-screening chat & reception. Limited space, first come, first served. Registration required!
When: 7-9pm
Where: Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC
Cost: Free!, register in advance 

The Thrillbillys 
Enjoy a night of roots rock & libations & food @ a local hip joint. It’s always a good time!
When: 8:30-11:30pm

Saturday

Hyattsville Walk with a Doc
Join this monthly doctor-led community wellness walk that welcomes walkers of all ages!  The walk begins with a brief health talk followed by about 60 minutes of walking at your pace.
When: 9-10am
Where:Meet at  Jefferson St entrance of the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail (45th Ave & Jefferson St).
Cost: Free!

Guest Musician @ Vigilante Coffee
Grab a cup of coffee & enjoy an afternoon of live music w/ vocalist & acoustic guitar player. Classic pop, rock, country covers & originals!
When: 1-3pm
Where: Vigilante Coffee Co, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!, coffee & snacks for sale 

Denizens Animal Can Release Party w/ Axe Throwing + Dog Adoption
Three great events under one ruff (I mean roof LOL)! Dog adoption event, axe throwing, & Animal Hazy IPA cans available to take home & enjoy! Pooches & other life’s pleasures. What a combo!
When: 5-9pm
Where: Denizens Brewing Co, Riverdale Park
Cost: Free!, beer for sale, dogs for adoption, axe throwing $10

Free Monthly Film Screening Series 2: Toshi’s Turbine
Come see the story of friends on a mission to build a stronger Nepal, one wind turbine @ a time. Set in the Himalayan Mountains, this documentary presents unforeseen challenges in an uplifting tale. Chat w/ filmmaker post-screening!
When: 6-7:30pm
Where: Gateway Art Center, Brentwood

Opening Reception: Turn the Tables
A collaboration with Red Onion Records in honor of Women’s History Month. 14 women artists + album as canvas! Live music, tasty treats from Pizza Paradiso, drinks from Denizens Brewing. Portion of proceeds for National Women’s Law Center!

Wild Anacostias
Come celebrate Mardi Gras in March with The Wild Anacostias. This a Raucous Merry-Making Multi-Morphous Louisiana-style Party Band! Mardi Gras, Street Parade Brass, Cajun, Zydeco, Funk, & more!

Where: Cheverly American Legion, Cheverly

The Noah Pierre Trio 
Live music brought to you by Baltimore-based trio. Known for performing a mix of covers & originals. All different styles, including modern jazz, fusion & funk. Nestle inside w/ a glass of mead. Play games w/ friends, order food for delivery & just chill!

Sunday

Pop-Up International Womxn’s Day 2020
Celebrate Womxn’s Day w/ beer, local womxn made products & more! Come hang w/ your community & the folks from Denizens Brewing Co. & Femme Fatale DC.
When: 1-5pm
Where: Denizens Brewing Co, Hyattsville
Cost: Free admission (we think?), drinks & local made products for sale 

Chamber Music Concert: Salon Trio
Musical performance & reception @ the mansion w/ the US Army Strings playing Brahm’s Clarinet Quintet. Brought to you by the Riverdale Chamber Music Society. Make it an afternoon, tour the museum (small fee applies) before the concert!
When: 2:30-4pm
Where: Riversdale House Museum, Riverdale Park

Patient No More Screening w/ Filmmaker Q&A
Grab your lawn chairs, food & drinks to share & head over to this arts incubator for a movie screening. In honor of Women’s History month, the topic features barriers LGBTQ+ women face when navigating across health care systems. It’s a never-ending hunt that affects many lives!
When: 3-5pm
Where: Red Dirt Studio, Mount Rainier
Cost: Free! 

Ally Theatre Company’s Rasheeda Speaking 
A tense workplace thriller. A chilling power struggle. A dark comedy that will keep you on edge until the final moment. Take a look at the prevalence of ingrained racism in this thought-provoking play. Ally Theatre brings it again!
When: 4pm
Where: Joe’s Movement Emporium, Mount Rainier
Cost: $25 general admission, $17 student/senior/veteran/teacher
