154 years ago, Maryland amended the state’s constitution and emancipated enslaved African-Americans in the state. Join for a lecture and musical performance in celebration of Maryland Emancipation Day. Dr. Clara L. Small, renowned historian, author, and Professor Emeritus in History at Salisbury University, will present her lecture, “How free, was free?” and examine the experience of African- Americans in post-emancipation Maryland. Cap the evening with a moving performance by The Washington Revels Jubilee Voices, an ensemble committed to the preservation of African-American history and traditions– presenting songs and stories of struggle and perseverance, trials and triumphs, as expressed through a cappella music, drama and dance.
Thursday Night Music Series – Open Mic with The John Figuras
Eat some good Mediterranean food and listen to the tunes of great local musicians. Always a fun time and can attest that their falafels, with some special sauce, will make you return for more!

What’s Going On
What’s Going On seeks to provoke thoughtfulness and spark conversations to ignite change in each community it touches. The music of Marvin Gaye is given fresh perspectives with choreography by Vincent Thomas, Ralph Glenmore and Sylvia Soumah in this evening-length work that features modern, jazz and West African dance, provoking thoughtful engagement with audience members.
