Stopped by the Brentwood Arts Exchange lately? This gallery along the Route 1 corridor is a gem of a find – consistently full of beautifully curated exhibits that give us both pause and wonder. And it’s free to thee.
Now, sometimes galleries can be intimidating to those without any formal art training (read: me), but I’ve never found this place to have any airs about it. Instead, it’s a comfortable space where you’re invited to pick up a brochure by the front desk and check out the art at your own pace.
Brentwood Arts Exchange Over the Holidays
As many readers will have visitors in town over the holidays, we thought we’d highlight this gallery as a place to take folks to should you choose to explore your burgeoning creative side with Uncle Mikey or Aunty Shante. Or maybe you just head out by yourself. (They also have a cool music scene – like this show where we caught Be Steadwell.) Afterwards, walk to Savor at Studio 3807 for some food / drink, or head up Route 1 for a treat or two at Hyattsville’s Maryland Meadworks + Shortcake Bakery. (Mix it up. Go crazy.) Read on for a sneak peek of one of the current exhibits, “From Baltimore With Love.”
From Baltimore With Love
A formal word or two about this collection by the Brentwood Arts Exchange: “This diverse, four person group exhibition, featuring Mary Deacon Opasik, Oletha DeVane, Jessica Devilbiss, and LaToya M. Hobbs will highlight the vibrant and unique character of the contemporary art scene in Baltimore county. By displaying various visual disciplines, these artists – selected by curator, educator and fellow artist Schroeder Cherry – give a vibrant and dynamic visual definition of Baltimore’s unique flavor, cementing the area’s nationally renowned reputation as a groundbreaking nexus for the arts.”
The Brentwood Arts Exchange is located at 3901 Rhode Island Ave, Brentwood, MD 20722.
Gallery Hours: Monday – Friday: 10am – 7pm; Saturday 10am – 4pm.
