Route 1 Adults’ Weekend Guide: November 23-25

Santa fun & more at Community Forklift this Friday & Saturday!

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! This weekend’s full of local events – especially those featuring our small, local businesses! Enjoy!

FRIDAY 

Green is the New Black Party at Tanglewood Works
Shop small and join us for music, treats, demos and a shopping experience that will bring joy, not stress. (Wear green and you’ll receive a prize at the checkout!)
When: 11am-8pm
Where: Tanglewood Works, Hyattsville
Cost: Free (no entry fee)

Green Friday at Community Forklift
Shop green, shop small or don’t shop at all! CF gives you an excused to stay away from the mall! Come to our warehouse to relax with friends and learn how to make presents! There’ll be community crafting, holiday gift market, blacksmithing demos and more.
When: 11am-4pm
Where: Community Forklift, Edmonston
Cost: Free!

Light it Up: Hyattsville
Businesses all along the Route 1 Corridor will be lighting up their shops starting at 5 p.m. on Nov. 23 to kick off the shopping season. Many participating shops will be staying open till 8 p.m. and will also be hosting a special event or treat for visitors that night. (*Free hot chocolate at Vigilante during Light It Up!)
When: 5-8pm
Where: Hyattsville
Cost: Free (no entry fee)

Black Friday Jazz
Unwind after your Black Friday shopping spree with jazz and mead on our corner stage. This free event features professional Jazz musicians Luke Brandon (trumpet) and James Collins (keyboards) performing their magic with probable guest appearances by other local jazz impresarios.When: 7pm
Where: Maryland Meadworks, Hyattsville
Cost: Free (no entry fee)

SATURDAY 

Gateway Arts District Small Business Saturday 
Shop for unique gifts at the Gateway Arts District’s small businesses and artist studios. Our community is filled with great small retailers selling handmade, upcycled, vintage, fair trade, and unexpected goods.
When: 9am – 9pm
Where: Multiple Locations
Cost: Free (no entry fee)

Saturday Social Ride
Our regular Saturday morning easy ride to points south in search of food and drink and fun! Some on road riding, but mostly trails, mostly flat, usually 12-16 miles round trip. Bring cash/cc, lock. Helmet required.
When: 11:15am – 1:15pm
Where: Proteus Bicycles, College Park
Cost: Free!


Watkins Festival of Lights
This spectacular holiday drive-through event features over one million twinkling lights, wonderful themed displays, & one of the tallest tree displays in the state! Don’t forget to bring canned goods/non-perishable items for donation to local food banks. Cash only.
When: 5-9:30pm
Where: Watkins Regional Park, 301 Watkins Park Drive, Upper Marlboro
Cost: $10/car

SUNDAY 

Community Yoga
An informal group led by neighborhood instructors. Bring a mat – all levels, including those new to yoga are welcome. Questions? Email: rlgitter@gmail.com
When: 5-6pm
Where: Hyattsville City Bldg, 2nd floor, 4310 Gallatin Street, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!

BAS 
Go play “Tribe” by Bas (w/ J. Cole) and then buy tickets for what will likely be a great show MBAH!
When: Doors at 7pm
Where: MilkBoy ArtHouse, College Park
Cost: $20
