Route 1 Kids Weekend Guide: May 31st-June 2nd

Brentwood Day 2

Kid-friendly fun at Brentwood Day!

This weekend’s kids activities along Route 1 include Old Greenbelt Theatre’s Family Fun Day, Bike Rodeo, Puppet Show, Brentwood Day, Splash in Hyattsville, Learn to Row clinic in Bladensburg & more!

Friday Fun Along Route 1 Corridor

Bladensburg Waterfront Park (All Ages)
Come frolic with the family on multiple playgrounds, including a train caboose. Enjoy a picnic in a gazebo. Ride or stroll along a trail or take to the water! Boat rentals onsite. So much to do in one place!
When: Sunrise to Sunset (rentals from 9am-3pm)
Where: 4601 Annapolis Road, Bladensburg
Cost: Free! (unless rented boats, see here for prices)

Pick Your Own Strawberries (All Ages)
Once a year, we relish the chance to pick our own strawberries. So fragrant, so juicy, so worth the trip to this third-generation farm. Grab a basket! Kids love getting their hands dirty (and sampling along the way, pickers privilege!).
When: 10am-6pm
Where: 12850 Shlagel Road, Waldorf
Cost: Strawberries priced by the pound

Hamilton Splash Park (All Ages)
What better way to cool off than in a community splash pad. Aquaclimb wall, water slides, tipping buckets, lounge chairs, picnic tables and more. Make a splash with the kids!
When: 10am-7pm
Where: 3901 Hamilton Street, Hyattsville

X-treme Teens: Escape Room Night (Ages 10-17)
What’s all the fuss about these escape rooms? Dare to find out! Have fun with your teen friends trying to solve the mystery. Maybe you’ll escape (or maybe not!). It’s all fun and games! 😉
When: 7-10pm
Where: 1500 Merrimac Drive, Hyattsville
Cost: Free w/ MNCPPC youth ID

Saturday Fun Along Route 1 Corridor

Learn to Row Clinic in Eights! (Ages 12+)
Come meet real rowers and give rowing a try. See their boathouse, sit on a rowing machine, and try your hand at pulling on an oar in an eight! Register to let them know you are coming!
When: 8-11am
Where: 4601 Annapolis Road, Bladensburg
Cost: Free!

Putting Green Workshop
Build a tabletop putting green in this DIY hands-on workshop. Kids decorate, earn a certificate of achievement, workshop apron, and a commemorative pin (while supplies last!) to take home. Fore!
When: 9am-12pm
Where: 3301 E West Highway, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!, w/ accompanying adult

Bike Rodeo (Ages 4-10)
A bike obstacle course and chance to win a bike just for kids! Cool bike gear giveaways, bike education, and of course build riding skills! BYOB (bikes) – limited bikes available. Pre-registration encouraged.
When: 10am-12pm
Where: 25 Crescent Road, Greenbelt

Beech Tree Puppets: Jack and the Beanstalk (All Ages)
Enjoy this classic children’s tale of Jack and the magical beans that grow into an out of this world beanstalk. Story told with handcrafted puppetry and set with lots of singing.
When: 11am-12pm
Where: 113 Centerway, Greenbelt
Cost: $5 suggested donation

97th Annual Brentwood Day (All Ages)
Get funky at this community event situated in an outdoor recreation and play area. Kicks off with a parade, followed by hours of food and lots of fun!
When: 11am-5pm
Where: 4300 39th Place, Brentwood
Cost: Free!

Sunday Fun Along Route 1 Corridor

OGT Family Fun Day (All Ages)
Parting can be such sweet sorrow, but not today! The kiddos get to leave their handprint on their outgoing screen. Only a few days until this iconic theatre closes its main room for renovation. Be a part of history and enjoy family fun activities!
When: 10am-2pm
Where: Old Greenbelt Theatre, 129 Centerway, Greenbelt
Cost: Free!

Sunday Boat Tour (All Ages)
All aboard! This pontoon boat is set to sail with you and your kids. Enjoy nature gliding along the Patuxent River. Witness animals in their natural habitat. Just don’t forget to register in advance here!
When: 2-3pm
Where: Patuxent Research Refuge, 16000 Croom Airport Road, Upper Marlboro
Cost: Free!

College Park Youth Orchestra Spring Concert (All Ages)
Come experience the joy of ensemble playing at this innovative collaboration between young musicians, parent and teacher volunteers, and many sponsors. They’ve been working hard to bring you this end of year musical event!
When: 7-9pm
Where: 7000 Adelphi Road, Hyattsville
Cost: Free! (I think…)
