Route 1 Grocery Store Update: 4/8

🥚 🛒 🧻 Wednesday Grocery Store Update. 😊 Special requests from yr neighbors for info on eggs, toilet paper, paper towels and tofu. Also, folks are curious re what stores are implementing social distancing & cleaning of carts – so please share what you see. (FWIW, we’ve heard good things about Target & YES! Organic Market in Hyattsville.) Thank you, all! 🙌

Grocery Store Update

Don’t forget – these local grocery stores offer special shopping hours for our older friends and those with compromised immune systems.

And these local pharmacies now offer free 1-2 day delivery of your prescription medications.

Went to Giant on E/W this morning for senior shopping hour. It was almost empty. You have to clean cart yourself. Isles are marked one way.
Some toilet paper, no paper towels. Reasonably good produce availability, limited frozen foods, no flour.

Trader Joe’s on Route 29 in Silver Spring had a very organized process yesterday for limiting the number of shoppers in the store at one time. 8 to 9 am is for seniors only. You walk up to the sidewalk in front of the store and take a number, and then wait away from other people until your number is called. When a shopper comes out, the next number is called (with a bullhorn.) They have a freshly-cleaned cart waiting for you inside. About 15 shoppers were in the store.
Some people under 60 were already waiting in a separate line, 6 feet apart from each other, when I got there at 8:30. They were allowed to take numbers starting at 9 am.
If you have to leave before your number is called, you can come back later in the day with your ticket and be the next person allowed in.
As for supplies, they seemed to have the normal amount of most items I was looking for when I got in around 9 a.m.: milk, bread, chicken, yogurt, cookies, bananas, frozen veggies, chips, brown sugar, but only one can of baked beans. (I don’t buy paper products there.)
