National Arboretum

Patuxent Research Refuge
Even when there’s not a specific program to check out, this place is still a good morning/afternoon’s spent exploring the exhibits, taking your pick of any of the activities on the “Family Adventure Cart” including an Adventure Backpack, Scavenger Hunt, Bug Kits, Field Guides, etc. My review of Patuxent Research Refuge here!

Mt. Rainier Nature Center
Check out some hands-on exhibits, live animals, educational displays, a play area and more at this fun, free, petite, local site. For a sneak peek, read about our time here! (Tip: Build in some time to check out The Waterhole in Mt. Rainier. Great, local organic juice spot. Kid-friendly, too!)

Saturday Family Fun Along Route 1
Bird Walk at Cash Lake (Ages 5+)
Please join us at South Tract for a two mile leisurely bird walk around Cash Lake searching for and identifying multiple species of birds. Walk is weather dependent and begins at the visitor center. At the conclusion of the program participants will review the refuge’s bird check list. Water bottle and binoculars are recommended. Strollers are not recommended for this tour.

PG Culture Playdate
Join us every third Saturday for family-friendly activities to engage with African American history and tradition through art-based learning. Bring the kids and they can have fun crafting history with our talented Museum staff and Teaching Artists.

There is nothing kids at Joe’s love more than watching Rakeem Delwin perform his famous Michael Jackson routine. Kids will love learning the smooth moves from King of Pop. It’s highly encouraged to dress in homage to Michael Jackson with a single white glove, skinny pants, shiny shoes, and fedoras!

Over 29 pinball machines to choose from! Young’n plays pinball while you enjoy some fresh coffee or tea from their Witches Brew Cafe. Or you play pinball, too! See what fun we had at MOM’s Organic Market here!

Soup’s On: Kitchen Guild Open House
Join us for a FREE open hearth program! The Riversdale Kitchen Guild will use vegetables from the winter garden to make soups using 18th and 19th century recipes. Enjoy with bread and beverages.

Trash to Treasure – Stream Clean Up & Art Creation Event
Join in a fun, family-friendly event to help clean up the Patapsco River! The first hour will be spent cleaning the Patapsco river and the second hour spent sorting through the found items to create art pieces that express how we treasure the Patapsco watershed.
