Happy weekend! Weather’s supposed to be lovely Friday and Saturday so included plenty of ideas for outdoor kids activities this weekend!
Friday Fun with Route 1 Kids
Outdoor Sun + Sand + Beach Fun at Sandy Point State Park
With beautiful weather in the forecast and a half-day for many PGCPS students, pack a picnic, some blankets and some sandcastle tools for a trip to Sandy Point State Park. You’ll likely have the beach and a view of the Chesapeake Bridge all to yourselves! At about 45-minutes drive, it’s a great place to add to your outdoor fun list. Paint Branch Parkway Park Playground (All Ages)
Get outside and check out this great playground, rivaling any great playground you’ve been to in DC, NYC or anywhere! Among other great things, its fireman’s pole use a fun hydraulic lift to boost kids (and adventurous adults…) up and down a log plank is a blast!
When: Sunrise to sunset
Where: 5202 Campus Drive (if old GPS, enter 5202 Paint Branch Parkway), College Park (Near Disc Golf)

Playground at University Hills Duck Pond Park (All Ages)
Pack a picnic, check out the duck pond and then have fun at 1 of the 3 playgrounds at this park! In addition to the the playground located at the entrance off of Wells Blvd, there’s as an even bigger one just down the bike path with structures for the toddler and 5-12 crew.

Patuxent Research Refuge
Explore the exhibits, take your pick of any of the indoor and outdoor activities on the “Family Adventure Cart” including an Adventure Backpack, Scavenger Hunt, Bug Kits, Field Guides, etc. My review of Patuxent Research Refuge here!

Gymkana Home Show 2019

Saturday Fun with Route 1 Kids
Pet Care Fair for Kids!
College Park Fifth grader Fahey James and her Junior Girl Scout Troop 96 have organized this great event to teach children and parents about how to be responsible pet owners at home and in the community (earning their Bronze Award in the process)! Stop by, make a pet toy to donate to the animal shelter as you help pets and animals in the community!

Spring Wildlife Festival
Includes a “Where the Wild Things Are” puppet show, Nature Songs with the Nature Troubadour, Raptors Reign, Tram Tours and more. Check out more things to do with the kids at Patuxent Research Center here.

Wegmans Wonderplace
Does your kiddo love grocery stores or stacking (and perhaps hoarding) play vegetables? Then this is the place for you all! Located inside the National Museum of American History, this grocery store-themed spot will keep your kiddo occupied for a good hour or so. After that, you can all check out the rest of this amazing museum!
When: 10am – 4pm

STEM-Fun at Diven’s Den
