The Greenbelt Labor Day Festival is happening Friday, August 30th through Monday, September 2nd of this year! The festival is 4 rockin’ days of fun featuring amusement rides for kids of all ages, a carnival, live music, art exhibits, food, used book sale, craft fair, Greenbelt’s Labor Day Parade & more. More on the Festival, Route One Fun travel tips and information on how to score discount unlimited amusement rides below!
Greenbelt Labor Day Festival
This is the 65th year of the festival; it started in 1955 as a way of raising funds to build a Youth Center. According to the Festival’s website, “it has been held every year since by the Greenbelt Labor Day Festival Committee, one of the largest all-volunteer organizations in Maryland.”
Amusement Rides
Plenty of fun rides for kids of all ages to explore! Like most amusement parks, some rides have height restrictions so keep that in mind when prepping the youngn’s.

Carousel’s always a good call for the 2 – 8-year-old set.
If the Festival follows the same format as last year, each ride will cost around 3 tickets. Given that 20 tickets cost $20 last year, that got us around 6 rides for that price. Needless to say, we had to go back and buy more tickets…which is why you should learn from our mistake and head to the Greenbelt Coop for your wristband voucher ASAP! (More on that below.)
We seem to recall there being around 20 rides or so at the festival. Or maybe it was just that we did 20. Anyhoo. Suffice to say that there’s enough to fill an afternoon, especially if you squeeze in breaks for delicious lemonade or Simple Pleasures homemade ice-cream. Yum!
We liked that there were enough rides to keep kids & folks of all ages happy.
And Live Music, Sports, Art Show +
There’s so much more happening at the Festival that you really ought to check out the event’s website for the full scoop, including their image gallery, where their pictures really do tell a thousand words!
Discount! Wristband Vouchers for Unlimited Rides
We discovered too late last year that a limited number of wristband vouchers are available for sale ahead of the festival. These vouchers allow you to ride as many rides as you’d like on Saturday or Sunday afternoon for just $12! As of today, these wristband vouchers are still available for purchase at the Greenbelt Coop‘s customer service office. Sale ends August 30th, 2019 so move it, move it!
Greenbelt Elementary School PTA Book Sale
At the festival, stop by the Greenbelt Elementary PTA‘s Used Book Sale, where you’ll find over 20,000 used books to satiate your literary appetite. The profit goes directly to the school to support students and teachers.
Have Books to Donate?
Have some good condition books that you’d like to donate to this good cause? The last day to drop off your used books at The Greenbelt Co-op is Thursday, August 29, 2019.

Travel Tips
- Parking at the Greenbelt Labor Day Festival can be a doozy so don’t expect to get a spot anywhere near the festival (though there are a limited number of spots available for disabled and emergency vehicles). Review this page for transportation information on the free shuttle from various locations around Greenbelt.
- Wear sunscreen. A ton of it.
- Bring hats, visors, sunglasses, whatever. It’s hot and the sun is direct in certain spots.
The Greenbelt Labor Day Festival is held at the Roosevelt Center at 101 Centerway in Greenbelt, MD.
