Join the Laurel Historical Society for the 8th annual McCeney March through historic Laurel! In honor of community activist, LHS Board Member, and avid walker Jim McCeney, learn more about his beloved town. Starting at the Laurel Museum at 10 am on Saturday, Sept. 30th, follow a self-guided 1.25-mile scenic route full of interactive stops to learn more about the history of the Laurel Museum, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Old Laurel High School, Emancipation Park, and more. All proceeds will go toward local scholarships and educational programs.
Following the walk, at 12 pm, there will be a closing reception and pizza lunch at the Laurel Municipal Pool Meeting Room where this year’s James B. McCeney Scholarship winners will be presented. You’ll also have the chance to sample the cakes in the second annual Cold Oven Pound Cake Challenge in honor of Mildred Awkward, a long-time St. Mark’s parishioner and home baker.
