One of my fave farmers markets moves indoors for the winter! Get your fresh and local produce right here! We love strolling around the Riverdale Park Farmers Market, buying some fresh, local produce, grabbing a bite from one of the vendors and then heading to Town Center Market for a tasty beverage.

Blue Plains Release Party w/ Olivia & The Mates
Blue Plains is a local indie rock band who’ve been compared to Wilco, Radiohead, Mumford and Arcade Fire. And they’re your neighbors. If you haven’t heard them yet and happen to be downtown, stick around and check out their album release party at the Black Cat.

FRIDAY
This exhibit honors the legacy of Henrietta Lacks, a black tobacco farmer from southern Virginia who had cervical cancer when she was 30. Read about her extraordinary life, her struggles, and how she left a legacy that changed modern medicine. Memorabilia and other items will be on display.

Maryland Opera Studio students premiere an opera by the winner of the annual Opera Composition Contest. In a small town, somewhere in America, a community gathers to ask their senator questions about the politics of the day, and the proceedings are live-streamed on social media by a young intern. But the conversation turns into a heated debate with mortal stakes when a retired librarian takes the event hostage.

Heartfest – Listen, Paint, Give, Love
Meet the artists, see their latest locally handmade creations and watch the magic happen. See free glassblowing demonstrations, tour artist studios, or work with our artists to create something awesome from hot glass for a fee. Artists will also be there to answer questions, explain the process and show their finished pieces (some would make great locally-made Valentine’s gifts!). And on a cold day, the glassblowing studio is the perfect place to be!
Public Reception – Relics and Prospects
Montpelier Arts Center is proud to honor Black History Month through an exhibition of contemporary artwork that reflects the lives and perspectives of the African-American experience. Using symbolism and found objects, artists explore the journey and history of being Black through painting, mixed media, and sculpture.

In Magpie’s Blanket, a thoughtful award-winning novel, Kimberly D. Schmidt brings to life the history of Plains Indian women and the white invasion–an account not solely of violence and bloodshed but also of healing and forgiveness. Through the memories of three generations of Cheyenne people, the novel recounts the events of the massacre and the century-late reconciliation after the townspeople’s misguided attempt to re-create the “battle” of the Washita with descendants of US soldiers.
Valentine’s Origami
Learn how to make a simple origami flower, followed by a more complicated origami heart box. Materials are free for one flower and one box per customer.
