Your guide to events happening this weekend along the Route 1 corridor! SK8 + Coffee Break in Hyattsville, Forklift First Friday, too! Mountain Biking in Laurel, Writing Workshop in College Park & more inside Route One Fun’s latest Weekend Guide!

Friday

Forklift First Friday (All Ages)
Everyone’s invited, including well-behaved leashed pets at this monthly warehouse become pop-up market. Enjoy live music and gnoshes. Take in some local art. Snag a new item at the mystery salvage sale. Face painting and magic for kids!
When: 6-8pm
Where: Community Forklift, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!, food, beverage, arts/items for sale

Close the Camps Event (All Ages)
Make a statement and support the work of the Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) spearheaded by two local female advocates demanding justice and accountability from political leaders. Get an update on the crisis at the border and learn what we can do to #closethecamps.
When: 7-9pm
Where: Maryland Meadworks, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!, 15% of all mead sales will be donated to the WRC to support their efforts to Close The Camps!

Saturday

Stretching Fore! Golfers (Ages 18+)
Learn a variety of ways to loosen up before hitting the golf course. All fitness levels are encouraged to participate!
When: 10-11am
Where: Paint Branch Golf Complex, College Park
Cost: Free!

SK8 + Coffee Break (All Ages)
Gotta love a coffee venue with a (side) kick 😉 Local legendary skateboarder will do a demo. Free skate and a best trick contest for prizes. Sticker making and small art market plus funky live music. All skate levels welcome!
When: 1-4pm
Where: Vigilante Coffee, College Park
Cost: Free!, coffee and snacks available for purchase

Wine & Jazz at Marietta (Ages 21+)
Some wine and jazz on manicured lawns sounds divine. Cozy up with your lawn chair, blanket (or both!), and enjoy local wines, live jazz, food, craft demonstrations, and historical home tour!
When: 2-7pm
Where: Marietta House Museum, Glenn Dale
Cost: $15, includes wine sampling glass

Saturday Night Salsa Dancing at the Wharf
Fire up your Saturday night with some salsa lessons followed by social dancing and music by Sine Miedo. Big crowd means plenty of people to dance with (and blending in! in case you haven’t perfected your salsa yet 😉
When: 7-10pm
Where: Cantina Bambina, Washington, DC
Cost: Free!

Sunday

Sunday Fairland Mountain Biking
Intermediate terrain. Mountain bike recommended. Helmet required. You’re going to kill it! Meet at the trailhead (back corner of the parking lot behind the Ice House).
When: 9-11am
Where: The Gardens Ice House, West Laurel
Cost: Free!, bring lock and cash/cc

Writing Workshop Series (All Ages)
Eat brunch and practice writing for yourself in this workshop series. New to writing? No problem! Just bring something to write with like a laptop or pen and paper, if you’re feeling old school (LOL). Space is limited. Reserve your spot today!
When: 12-4pm
Where: MilkBoy ArtHouse, College Park
Cost: $5-10 suggested donation (sliding scale), brunch separate

Sunflxw Salutations – Self-Care Masterclass (All Ages)
Come enjoy a beautiful vibe with delightful scents of aromatherapy, light healthy refreshments, tension-relieving assistance, and an ear that will listen to your mental blocks. All levels welcome!
When: 3-5pm
Where: Joe’s Movement Emporium, Mount Rainier
Cost: $10-$16

Scarlet Begoniaz at New Deal Cafe
It’s Sunday supper with the Begoniaz with special guest Jenn Mason Tony from Better Weather. Never miss a Sunday show! Begoniaz brings outstanding musical women front and center to the American Roots music of the Grateful Dead.
When: 7-9pm
Where: New Deal Cafe, Greenbelt

    Join the Prince George’s Running Club (PGRC) on SUNDAY August 18th, for a fun, flat, and scenic 5k race on a certified course through Lake Artemesia in College Park, MD.

    This event features two races: The women’s race starts at 7:30 am. This event is part of the MD Women’s Distance Festival 5k Series. A Fella’s race will follow, starting at 8:30 am.

    Park in lot at Herbert Wells Ice Rink – 5211 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, MD 20740.

    Once again PGRC will be partnering with the Greenbelt Recreation Department to host the Buddy Attick Summer Fun Run series. The series is part of Get Active Greenbelt and provides an excellent opportunity for all levels of runners and walkers to exercise in a friendly and welcoming environment throughout the summer months. Best of all…it’s FREE!!!!

    Races will take place EVERY Thursday @ 7pm (registration 6:15pm-6:45pm) during July 11-August 15.

    The course will take runners and walkers around the scenic and shaded Buddy Attick Park lake path for their choice of either 1.75 miles (1 lap) or 3 miles (2 laps). Meet at Greenbelt Youth Center parking lot (99 Centerway Greenbelt, MD 20770 – behind the library).
