We’re pretty excited to check out the upcoming solar eclipse, especially as there are so many local places that are hosting viewing events – like the ones noted below! Check ’em out!
You’ll notice many of the events start before the actual eclipse time (2ish though some more in the know are putting their money on 2:41pm) – that’s to allow time for parking, settling, etc. And note, this list is not exhaustive; I just cobbled it together while drafting the Route One Fun! Weekend Guides, so if you’re aware of another viewing, feel free to add it in the comments.

Great American Solar Eclipse 2017!
History is about to repeat itself!! Join us as Parks and Recreation Commission hosts a sighting of the first total eclipse in the contiguous United States in 38 years! Partnering with WUSA Channel 9 and WPGC 95.5, you’ll be in for a fun afternoon of Science and Selfies! Traffic may be an issue, so arrive early as the first 600 attendees get a free pair of ISO-certified Solar Eclipse glasses!

GREENBELT
NASA Goddard Visitor Center
In Maryland, we will see a partial eclipse if the skies are clear! For this special event, the Goddard Visitor Center will be open from noon to 3 p.m. The peak of 80 percent totality will take place at about 2:41 p.m. NASA TV’s live coverage of the eclipse will be screened, and staff will be available to answer questions. Learn to be a citizen scientist for the eclipse with the GLOBE Observer app, available at https://observer.globe.gov/. Bring your lunch, a picnic blanket and eclipse viewing glasses, and watch the moon transit in front of the sun.
