FRIDAY, JANUARY 12TH

Laurel – MLK Day Wreath Laying Ceremony
Mayor Moe, the Laurel City Council and City Staff invite the public to attend the Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The program with begin with a few words about the importance of this event and the man it honors. It’s a touching tribute and we hope to see you there!
When: 4pm
Where: Laurel Municipal Center Peace Pole, 8103 Sandy Spring Road, Laurel

SATURDAY, JANUARY 13TH 

College Park – City Tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The City’s annual event honors Dr. King’s legacy through a keynote address, performances, art and a City proclamation. Every year a new theme is selected, showcasing how his work still impacts our community and our country and what we can do to continue his efforts in our current era. This year’s theme is “We Live Together or Perish” presented by the 2018 Keynote Speaker Jennifer B. Jones. Ms. Jones is a business strategist, legislative advocate, writer and speaker. Artwork and performances from local groups, schools and community organizations are a prominent feature of the Tribute event. This year, Friends Community School, the Talent Group for Children, B’hai Chorale, SGI Chorus, and more will be performing during the event. Stay after the event for a brief reception and an opportunity to meet and talk to the performers. Free event parking is available nearby in University Lots 1b and Z all day on Saturdays (excluding home football games). These lots are about a 2-5 minute walk to the venue. MONDAY, JANUARY 15TH 

Greenbelt – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service 
Join us in our Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service. Be part of a community service learning event to protect trees from beavers and invasive species! Bring Warm Clothes, Closed Toe Shoes, a Reusable Water Bottle. High School students, bring a service learning form for hours.
When: 10:30am
Where: Buddy Attick Park, 555 Crescent Rd, Greenbelt
Cost: Free

Hyattsville – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, all are invited to join Mayor Candace Hollingsworth for a large-scale trash and debris removal from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. We’ll be meeting in the parking lot of Northwestern High School. Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older, and should dress for the elements: long pants, long sleeves, and sturdy shoes or boots. Safety guidelines, cotton work gloves, litter sticks and trash bags will be provided. Participation can help satisfy the State of Maryland’s Student Service Learning requirement.
