Go Check Out “Rabbit Summer” by Ally Theatre Company!

This past weekend, I got the chance to check out Rabbit Summer by playwright Tracey Conyer Lee at Joe’s Movement Emporium and wanted to take this time to recommend you check it out because it was so good, so timely and so well done. *And I just learned that at this Saturday’s 2pm matinee, the audience is invited to stay for a post-show discussion with playwright Tracey Conyer Lee, as part of the 2018 Women’s Voices Theater Festival! 👏

Rabbit Summer is the first show of Ally Theatre Company‘s second season at Joe’s and presented as part of the 2018 Women’s Voices Theater Festival, designed to highlight the work of women playwrights. As its press release notes, “Wilson sees nothing wrong with his marriage to Ruby nor his job as a police officer in the midst of the BlackLivesMatter movement. He smiles through pain Ruby wishes he would share. When her best friend loses her husband to the quick trigger of a white cop, Ruby forces Wilson to confront his idealized manhood. An exploration of legacy, gun rights, secrets not well kept, and what it means to “live your truth” in an America built on lies.

This is the third show I’ve seen by Ally and each time I leave feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience such great, diverse, rich theatre so close to home. Their shows are always thought-provoking and timely, as they “produce theatre designed to engage audiences through acknowledging and confronting systemic oppression in America.”

I also really appreciate the efforts Ally makes to make theatre affordable, many times having free nights or community-based pay-what-you-can preview showings.

Ty Alexander, Producer of Rabbit Summer
and Managing Director of Ally Theatre Company
