Anacostia River Discovery Series Paddle Night
Come discover your Anacostia River by joining AWS for paddle night at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park. From this site, there is a covered pavilion, picnic benches and a playground so it’s an ideal summer evening out on the water! First-come, first-served so come early for your best chance of getting out on the water! Must register here!

NOI[SE]
The National Orchestral Institute + Festival joins with the UMD Academy for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to produce the 2nd Annual NOI[SE] event, where musicians joins with creative innovators to examine, rethink and renovate the orchestral experience. Will include live chamber music, polka, violin meditation, sight reading and more.

Book Preview Party – Spying on Whales
Come and celebrate the launch of Nick Pyenson’s new book, “Spying on Whales,” a dive into the secret lives of whales, from their evolutionary past to today’s cutting edge of science. Join for food, drink, and celebration! (Nick is the curator of fossil marine mammals at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History – and a neighbor in University Park! πŸ™‚

#poolparty Community Preview 
Written by Hyattsville resident Jennifer Mendenhall and based on a local Prince George’s County story, #poolparty sheds light on an unexpected invitation that launches the family into motion: the discovery of historical documents at a private swim club leads to a reckoning with the past. In a myth-busting demonstration of the fallacy of race, they flip from role to role – across type, time, and space – exposing the fatal consequences of racial prejudice: How can you breathe when your head is always under water? β€‹
When:8-10pm
Where: Joe’s Movement Emporium, 3309 Bunker Hill Road, Mt. Rainier
Cost: Pay What You Wish (sales end at 7pm)

SATURDAY 

Pollinator Fest 2018
Learn about pollinators! Honey tasting, native plant sale, pollinator crafts, pollinator games & more!

Author Talk & Print Workshop: Spying on Whales
Hear Nick Pyenson chat about his new book, Spying on Whales and check out illustrator’s Alex Boersma’s original art pieces featured in the book, including linocuts, scratchboards and prints! At the block printing workshop, you can carve and print your own science and natured inspired images!
When: 1-2pm (talk); 2-4pm (print workshop)
Where: Pyramid Atlantic, Hyattsville
Cost: $5 for print workshop (free for members of Pyramid Atlantic)

Opening Night: #poolparty

DuPont Brass w/ Desmond Stone & Kontrolled Khaos
If you haven’t heard these dudes play their amazing, soulful instruments yet, then you need to do so (we did so last time and they were great)! Originally composed of just five music majors from Howard University trying to raise money for tuition during the Christmas season, they’ve grown to eight members and are FANTASTIC!
When: 8:30pm
Where: MilkBoy ArtHouse, College Park
Cost: $10 adv / $12 day of

According to Preservation Maryland, this house is “one of the best surviving examples of a 1920s schoolhouse in Prince George’s County.” Played #whereamiwednesday yet?

SUNDAY 


Adelphi Pool Open House!
The Adelphi Pool is opening its doors to non-member friends and neighbors with the ONLY open house of the summer! A family can swim all day for $20 (go to link for coupon). Cheese on Wheels Food Truck and Maui Wowi (shaved ice) will be selling their food/drinks from 11am – 4pm. *We go to the Adelphi Pool & love it. Big pool, gated baby pool area and lots of friends and neighbors for kids to play with!
When: 10:30am – 9:30pm
Where: Adelphi Pool, 9442 Riggs Road, Adelphi
Cost: $20 for

Chinese Medicine for Beginners
Students will take away from this class a basic understanding of the principles of Chinese medicine and formulas that support wellness and longevity for every body.
