Adults’ Weekend Guide! Feb. 25-26th

Sometimes, us adult-types like to have fun, too.  So, serving you all up some fun, local ideas on how to do just that this weekend!

SATURDAY 

College Park ParkRun 
Head out on for a weekly, free, 5K, timed run.  Afterwards, enjoy a post parkrun coffee in The Board & Brew, 8150 Baltimore Ave, College Park.  All ages welcome!  
When: Saturdays at 9 a.m.
Where: Paint Branch Trail, 4289 Metzerott Road, College Park
Admission:  Free but please register before your first run. 

Artist Talk: Drawn Out: A Conversation about Expanding the Boundarie 
Please join us for a performance by Michael Pestel of his “Birdrawing Machine.” The performance will be followed by a panel discussion that aims to raise the critical questions surrounding the nature and sustainability of drawing in academic institutions.
When: 2-4:30pm
Where: Brentwood Arts Exchange, 3901 Rhode Island Ave, Brentwood
Cost: Free

Big Ten Bhangra
If you’ve never heard of Bhangra and/or have never witnessed a Bhangra competition, then you owe it to yourself to check out this fun event!  Bhangra is a form of music and dance that originated from Punjab.  In this competition, Bhangra is embraced in its traditional form, but also in a new form that encompasses a fusion with different musical and dance style genres, such as hip hop and R&B.
When: 6pm
Where: The Clarice
Cost: $20. UMD student: $10

A Night with Jackie Moms Mabley
Step back in time with the wonderful mother-wit of Jackie “Moms” Mabley. Enjoy snacks and an evening with Charisma Wooten in the Helen Hayes nominated Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play. You will laugh and cry!
When: 8-9pm
Where: Robert Harper Books, 6216 Rhode Island Ave, Riverdale
Cost: $20. 

‘It’s Out Time’ – Soul in Motion’s 33rd Anniversary Concert
You’ll be enticed by the high energy choreography and heart pounding rhythms as we continue to salute the richness of the African Diaspora! 
When: 8pm
Where: Joe’s Movement Emporium, 3309 Bunker Hill Rd, Mt. Rainier
Cost: $25 adults; $15 students/seniors

SUNDAY 

Proteus Coffee Ride
Our weekly ride to Vigilante Coffee in Hyattsville for caffeinated goodness. Bring cash/cc, lock.
When: 10am-12pm
Where: Proteus Bicycles, 9217 Baltimore Ave, College Park
Cost: Free to ride.

Out of the Shadows: A Woman’s Work is Never Done 
Using the open hearth in the dependency kitchen, the Riversdale Kitchen Guild cooks up foods typical of 19th-century African American residents of Riversdale. You will also receive a tour of historic house.
When: 12-3pm
Where:  4811 Riverdale Rd, Riverdale
Cost: Adult $5; Senior $4; Student $2; FREE ages 4 & under

Well Rooted: Black Townships in Prince George’s County
An exploration of legacy, featuring narrative presentations shared by historians & life-long residents.
When: 2-4pm
Where: Prince George’s African American Museum & Cultural Center, 4519 Rhode Island Ave, North Brentwood
Cost: Free

Beethoven at the Threshold 
Three of Beethoven’s most consequential works encompassing three different chamber music genres and wildly contrasting landscapes are dramatically juxtaposed in one exciting evening.
When: 3pm
Where: The Clarice, Gildenhorn Recital Hall 
Cost: Free!

Afternoon of Sugar & Jazz
Break out the rolling pin and get the family together to bake your best cookies, to be enjoyed while listening to some sweet jazz. Bring two dozen cookies (all one kind), and your’s just might be named “Best cookie of Hyattsville.” Prizes will be awarded.
When: 4-6pm
Where: Hyattsville Municipal Building, 4310 Gallatin St., Hyattsville
Cost: Free!

A Night with the Stars Party!
Join to celebrate the year in movies – Free!  Open to all.  There will be bingo, trivia, and special offers for members of Old Greenbelt Theatre.  Open to all. 
When:8pm
Where: Old Greenbelt Theatre
Cost:  Free

Ashley Heath Solo in the Listening Room 
With a blend of original soul Americana music, Ashley Heath has been arising as one of Asheville, NC finest and uniquely gifted musicians with as described “velvety” vocals and bluesy guitar style. 
When: 8pm

Cost: $15
