Culture Queen will be in New Carrollton!

Route 1 Kids have all the fun! Storytime in Mount Rainier, Family Yoga in College Park, Black History Live with Culture Queen in New Carrollton, Mardi Gras party in North Brentwood for the teens, Arts on a Roll in Suitland and more! Have fun!

Friday

Ready to Read Storytime: Pop up! (Ages 3-5, siblings welcome!)
It’s a storytime pop-up! Let the library come to you @ a fab fresh juice bar. Enjoy stories, singing & more! Plenty of curbside parking for strollers 😉
When: 10-10:30am
Where: The Waterhole, Mount Rainier
Cost: Free!, drinks for sale 

Family Fun Night 
Now that’s a bargain! Visit Port Discovery’s 2 new exhibits & explore 3 floors of hands-on, interactive entertainment under 1 roof. Purchase tix on site the day of!
When: 4-8pm
Where: Port Discovery Museum, Baltimore
Cost: $2/person 

Gymnastics Workshop (Ages Walking to 12)
Tumble your Friday afternoon away @ this beautiful gymnastics arena. Open to all for free play! Balance beams, obstacle courses, foam pit, & more! Two sections to accommodate wee ones & older kiddos. Adults, play too! Max 3 kids per adult.
When: 4:30-5:30pm
Where: PG Sports Complex & Learning Center, Landover
Cost: $7/participant 

X-treme TEEN: Mardi Gras Party (Ages 10-17)
Can’t wait to party w/ you! It’s a Mardi Gras celebration. Wouldn’t be complete w/o mask painting, colorful beads, music, & um, roller skating w/ a DJ. We thought you’d like that! 🙂
When: 7-10pm
Where: North Brentwood Community Center, North Brentwood
Cost: Free! w/ MNCPPC youth ID

Arts on a Roll @ Creative Suitland: Tin Art 
Let’s make art together! Fun for the whole family. Drop-in, hands-on, visual arts workshop. Create art w/ sheet metal. Make a necklace or key-chain to take home! Open to all levels!
When: 10am-12pm
Where: Creative Suitland, Suitland
Cost: Free! 

Open Gym @ Joe’s! (Ages 2-6)
Let them shake, rattle & roll @ a high energy drop-in class. Joe’s teachers will lead kids in physical activities, sports-like games & open play time! Stick around & watch them have fun!
When: 11:15am-12:45pm
Where: Joe’s Movement Emporium, Mount Rainier
Cost: $10

Owl & Kestrel
Two small birds of prey. One awesome event. Meet the American Kestrel & Eastern Screen Owl. Learn about their acrobatic prowess & hunting skills!

Black History Live w/ Culture Queen (Ages 5-18)
Let the Culture Queen show your kids how it’s done! Inspired by Josephine Baker, kids’ll learn how to celebrate their history & love themselves. It’s a live, original interactive, music, movement, & storytelling performance @ the local library!
When: 2-3pm
Where: New Carrollton Library Branch, New Carrollton
Cost: Free!

The Plummer’s Kitchen (All Ages)
Nellie Plummer can cook! Well, she did back in the 1920s. 🙂 A schoolteacher & church elder, discover more about Ms. Plummer’s life as a slave in Riverdale while learning about popular recipes during Nellie’s time in the Guild’s open hearth kitchen!
When: 12-3pm
Where: Riversdale House Museum, Riverdale Park
Cost: Free!, regular fee for house tours 

Artful Afternoons (Ages K-3rd grade, younger siblings welcome)
Drop by their studio & choose from 4 “maker stations”. Each presents a challenge or question. This month’s theme’s Van Gogh! Fun way to bring art to life w/ the kiddos!
When: 2:15-4:15pm
Where: National Museum of American History, Washington, DC
Cost: $32 per family (2 caretakers + 2 kids) 

Family Yoga
This class explores developmentally appropriate yoga songs, dance, relaxation and play in order to promote social-emotional development.
When: 3-4pm

Soul in Motion: Transformation (All Ages)

PRAISE Liturgical Dance Festival (All Ages)
A different kind of experience to check out w/ the fam. It’s showcasing @ a great venue. If you’ve never been, check it out! It’s an annual dance festival w/ local talent!
When: 4-6pm
Where: Publick Playhouse, Cheverly
Cost: $25 general admission, $20 seniors, students, & youth under 18
