Always one of our fave events – CASA PG’s Touch-a-Truck is this weekend!

Route 1 Corridor Kids have all the fun! Touch-a-Truck (or bus!) in Hyattsville is just one of cool, local, kid-friendly events happening this weekend! Creepy Critters in Laurel, Creepy Cupcakes in Hyattsville, Brentwood’s First Fall Fest and so much more to explore inside Route One Fun’s latest Kids Weekend Guide!

Friday

Feed the Ducks, Run Around Playground, Scoot Around
Pack a picnic, check out the duck pond and then have fun at 1 of the 3 playgrounds at this park! Bike paths there, too, so bring along a scooter (or bike)!
When: Sunrise to sunset…
Where: University Hills Duck Pond Park, 3400 Stanford St, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!

Sample a Music Together class
Music and movement for children ages 0-5 and the adults who care for them! Check out our time at Music Together SoHy here!
When: 9:30 (Miss Ellen)
Where: University Christian Church, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!

Public Hayrides (All Ages)
Take in the sites of fall during a 20-min scenic hayride. A photo oppt you don’t want to miss!
When: 10am-12pm
Where: Old Maryland Farm, Upper Marlboro
Cost: $2/person

Family Fun: Creepy Critters (All Ages)
Come learn how cool owls, bats & spiders can be. Hands-on games & activities. Drop-in program. Come & go as you like!
When: 10am-1pm
Where: National Wildlife Visitor Center, Laurel
Cost: Free!

Play, Hike & Run
This Imagination Playground is full of structures reminiscent of when the Mill was a functioning one. Afterwards, skip stones and cool your feet in the nearby river or take a leisurely walk along the adjacent hiking trails.
When: Sunrise – Sunset
Where: Adelphi Mill Playground, Adelphi
Cost: Free!

Purple Line's World of Wheels for CASA

Touch-a-Truck happening this Saturday at DeMatha High School!

Saturday

National Arboretum
Glorious time to check out the Arboretum. Explore the Bonsai Musem, the National Columns, frolick along the beautiful paths and more. Travel tips and more on our visit to the National Arboretum here.

Purple Line’s World of Wheels for CASA/Prince George’s County (All Ages)
Awesome event w/ a big heart. Many sponsors bringing a “touch-a-truck” event together for kids. Kid-friendly food, music & activities like moon bounces, carnival games, face painting & cotton candy!
When: 10am-2pm (Sensory Hour 10am-11am with lower noise levels)
Where: DeMatha High School, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!, tickets for some activities 

American Indian Festival (All Ages)
Celebrate the rich & diverse cultures of Native Americans with dancing, drumming, singing, storytelling, interactive exhibits & demos!
When: 10am-4pm
Where: Patuxent River Park, Upper Marlboro
Cost: Free!, nominal fees for some activities

Creepy Cupcakes: Kids Confectionary Decorating Class
This event is for kids who love being in the kitchen and parents who love to eat their creations! Have some SpOOky fun making cupcakes in class Executive Pastry Chef Padua Player of SugaChef Desserts!
When: 1-3pm
Where: Creative Saints Loft, Hyattsville
Cost: $35+

Brentwood’s First Fall Fest (All Ages)
Arts & music festival to benefit Thomas Stone Elementary School. Great local bands & DJs, art vendors & art demonstrations. Concessions, food vendors, beer garden & silent auction!
When: 3-7pm
Where: Brentwood Town Hall, Brentwood
Cost: Free!, food & beverage sold separately

The Great Jack O’Lantern Campfire (All Ages)
Join the spooky fun & help save Halloween from a mad scientist! Enjoy hot cider & popcorn & roast marshmallows. Costumes encouraged! (but not required…)
When: 7-8:30pm
Where: Darnall’s Chance House Museum, Upper Marlboro
Cost: $5/person

Maryland Renaissance Festival Closing Weekend!
Catch this annual classic before the season ends. Plenty of kid activities including food, fun, & fine-crafts. Tis’ the season to dress up in costume so go ahead!

Cost: Free! To $27 (depending on age)

Fire Fest Open House w/ Beltsville Fire Department (All Ages)
Free (!) food, face painting, moon bounce, games, treat bags, fire station tours, education demos & much more!
When: 12-4pm
Where: 4911 Prince Georges Avenue, Beltsville
Cost: Free!

Party for Poe
Learn about life in the 1840s & hear dramatic recitations of Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Bells,” “The Raven,” and “The Tell-Tale Heart”. Perfect for this time of year!
When: 1-4pm (recitations every 30 min starting @ 1:15pm)
Where: Laurel Historical Society, Laurel
Cost: $5 suggested donation 

Halloween on the Farm (Ages 2+)
Fall fest w/ hayrides, games, crafts, cider, creepy-crawly animals, costumed contest & pumpkins! Bring the family, enjoy the scene!
When: 4-7pm
Where: Watkins Regional Park, Upper Marlboro
Cost: $4/person, pumpkins for purchase
