We learned two important things when doing a curbside pickup at the Hyattsville Branch Library earlier this week: (1) The current (temporary) location will be closing next Saturday (5/29); and the new location is slated to open up towards the end of summer (so late August/early September). Exciting!
Hyattsville Library to Open Late Summer 2021
From PGCMLS:
The Hyattsville Branch Library temporary location, including the book return, will close its doors to the public at 5 pm on Saturday, May 29 in preparation for moving to the new branch. The newly constructed Hyattsville Branch Library is expected to open by late summer (subject to change). Meanwhile, customers are encouraged to access library services at the nearby New Carrollton Branch.
Kids’ Discovery Village
My youngest cannot wait for the new library to open! That said, she’s also audibly lamenting the closure of temporary library and access to its kids kitchen (in room by kids books). (Worth noting that we have an almost identical setup at home; but it’s somehow not as appealing. Story of our lives….) Just wait until she sees this pic of the updated kids’ area!
According to library architects Grimm and Parker, “The children’s area is imagined as a Discovery Village in the heart of the library. Complete with a drawbridge, moat, and castle walls, this children’s area brings warmth and excitement to the library stacks. Recognizing the changing role of public libraries, the design’s additional features include a café, community meeting rooms, technology labs, and study rooms.”
