Original Ledo’s: Say Hello, Wave Goodbye, Sorta

By now you’ve probably heard that the well-loved Original Ledo Restaurant in College Park is closing for good this Sunday, November 22nd. The iconic pizza place opened first in Adelphi in 1955 and moved to its College Park location in 2010. Like so many of you, we thoroughly enjoyed their thin-crusted, square pieces of pizza / heaven and are sorry to see them go.

Ledo Pizza

But did you hear what’s opening up in its place? A Ledo Pizza franchise restaurant. (Kudos to Route 1 Reporter for first tweeting this savory info nugget.)

(And special love for any of you who got the Soft Cell and/or David Gray reference in this post’s headline.)

Ledo Pizza Franchise to Open in College Park

The City of College Park states: “Chesapeake Hospitality will be opening a new Ledo Pizza franchise restaurant and potentially a smaller specialty food business in the 5,800 square-foot space. The new fast casual sit-down restaurant will serve pizza, wings, and other related specialties and will offer curbside take-away and delivery. The City anticipates that Chesapeake Hospitality will begin renovations in early 2021 and open in the spring or summer.”

What Say You? Fan of the Ledo’s Franchise?

Now, your turn. I know we’re all sad about the Original Ledo’s leaving, but what do you think of the news about a Ledo’s franchise opening up in its space? Have you tried the franchise pizza? Dig it? (Full disclosure: We’ve had the franchise pizza in the past and have liked it. So there’s that?) Comment below with your thoughts on this development!

Is the franchise Ledos pizza similar to the original? Still square? Save thin crust? Or is it completely different?

Still square, still thin crust, to my knowledge. Some folks have commented that it’s not as good. Remains to be seen / tasted!

The pizza is the same! BUT, I wonder if the original oven is staying…that seems to make a bit of a difference.

Ah! Good to know! I’m sure that oven makes all the difference! Let’s hope!

It’s the key to their pizza ! Grew up near the original , also had a Bambino’s , both had the oven that produced the best pizza. Brick ovens I believe. Ledo,s franchise pizza although still prefer over any other pizza, it’s just not the same without the true oven used at the original !
