Pyramid’s Anniversary Party is this Saturday!

Mighty fun weekend we have ahead of us, dear buds! Pyramid Atlantic in Hyattsville is celebrating its “paper” anniversary with a Pulp Fiction-inspired soiree, College Park celebrates The Old Parish House’s 200th birthday with tons-o-festivities, Hyattsville’s Porchfest, Greenbelt‘s Blues Festival and Mt. Rainier’s Live Music Thursdays keep us movin’ & groovin’ (yep, just wrote that) & you’ve got your choice of Yogalates, Open Barre, Yoga, Zumba & more! THURSDAY

Hispanic Heritage Film Series: Maria in Nobody’s Land/Maria en tierra de nadie
An unprecedented and intimate look at the illegal and extremely dangerous journey of three Salvadoran women to the US.

Dance Dance Party Party!
Dance Dance Party Party is a women-only freestyle exercise dance session! Come in your exercise clothes. Burn anywhere from 200-400 calories Dance your heart out to an eclectic mix of music for an hour straight. Make new friends, leave refreshed!

Live Music Thursdays: Robin Rhodes, bass, with Blake Meister, piano
Eat some good Mediterranean food, support a local Mt. Rainier restaurant and get down with some unexpected takes on jazz standards and originals by Robin and Blake at Live Music Thursdays! Support our local music scene and grab a beer / falafel, maybe both, while you’re at it!

FRIDAY 

Yogalates
Can’t decide between Yoga and Pilates? Then try Yogalates!

NextNOW Fest 2017 
NextNOW Fest is the University of Maryland’s yearly creative welcome and welcome back for Terps. Experience two evenings of nonstop music, theatre and dance performances, as well as immersive, technology-driven installations by artists from around campus and the country who are at the edge of their craft.
When: 6pm onwards
Where: The Clarice, University Blvd & Stadium Dr, College Park
Cost: Most events are free, no tickets or RSVP required

Outdoor Performance Series
Catch some live music by a local performer in this new public space intended to support the vision of a sustainable, walkable, vibrant top-20 college town.
When: 6-7pm

Cost: Free!

Hyattsville’s Summer Jam – Finale!
Join us to finish this year’s Summer Jam Series on a high note! There’ll be live blues-fiddle music from The Roustabouts, good beer from Calvert Brewing, and delicious food from the Healthy Fool food truck. Plus moonbounce and kids’ activities!

Zumba 
As you settle into back to school routines, don’t forget to plan some time for dancin’ and shakin’! No experience necessary, just a desire to smile, sweat, and enjoy great international music. Kids are welcome! (I’ve been to this and it’s a really fun time!)

Old Parish House at 200 – Vintage Dancing & Snacks

The Old Parish House is turning 200 and the City of College Park is celebrating! Tonight, music by Transatlantic Crossing, specializing in fiddle tunes. This fabulous band and their live caller April Blum will keep us all from getting lost on the dance floor. No partner, no experience necessary!
When: 7:30-9:30pm

Gregory Cornell at the Listening Room
Check out a show by Gregory Cornell, a singer-songwriter hailing from Brooklyn, is an ambitious roots musician that has crafted vivid music that is reflective of his knowledge and passion for Americana music.

SATURDAY

NOAA Center for Weather & Climate Prediction Open House
Celebrating its fifth year anniversary with this opportunity for the community to see the wonderful work being done at NOAA. Visitors will meet NOAA weather forecasters, hurricane hunter pilots, participate in tours of the forecast operations floor and more (details behind link).
When: 10am-3pm

Hyattsville PorchFest 2017
Hosted by the Hyattsville Preservation Association – 13 Porches. 25 performers! Each participating porch is hosting different performers. You can visit one, two or thirteen porches, it’s up to you. Download the schedule/map from the HPA website by clicking here!

Open Barre – Hurricane Irma Recovery Fundraiser

Pulp Fiction at Pyramid Atlantic: A “Paper” Anniversary! 
Celebrate Pyramid’s anniversary with this page-turning evening including music inspired by the cult classic film, photo ops, pulp-to-paper demonstrations, a cash bar with “adrenaline shots,” thematic munchies like “royales with cheese,” a seductive silent auction, and other juicy surprises. Attire is casual or campy.

Bake Sweet Love Pop Up Shop
