Adults’ Weekend Guide: June 14th-17th

Proverbs Reggae Band will be at HyFest this Saturday! 

Hyattsville’s HyFest, Yoga in College Park, Summer Concert Series in Riverdale Park, Juneteenth in Upper Marlboro, Eastern Rhodes Public Place Opening and Lesole’s Dance Project’s Freedom of Expression in Mt. Rainier and more, all this weekend along Route One!

THURSDAY 

Summer Body Boot Camp
Fitness in the Parks is a FREE exercise program that brings a variety of fitness opps to parks and natural areas across Prince George’s County!
When: 6:30pm

Thursday Night Summer Concert Series
Catch Eddie Baccus Jr in a lively performance of smooth and contemporary jazz.

FRIDAY 

Yoga in the Park
Runs Memorial Day through Labor Day at M-NCPPC sites throughout Prince George’s County. Designed for all levels!

Summer Concert Series – Stan Whitaker

Come join us as we kick off our Summer Concert Series with local and talented musician Stan Whitaker

Sligo Creek Stompers
Sligo Creek Stompers pay a raucous but refined blend of traditional roots music: Appalachian & Midwestern old time and bluegrass, New Orleans style traditional jazz, haunted Irish fiddle tunes, honkey tonk & classic country.

Local Bands + Local Craft Beer: What to love about HyFest!

SATURDAY 


Public Art Workshop (All ages!)
Join Art Works Now, The Clarice, Urban Arts Leadership Program and Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance as we collaborate to create a public work of art to be displayed at MilkBoy ArtHouse in College Park.
When: 10am-1pm
Where: Art Works Now, 4800 Rhode Island Ave, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!

Juneteenth
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. At this free, family event, enjoy the cultural heritage of African Americans through live music, art, dance and crafts.
When: 12-5pm
Where: Watkins Regional Park, 301 Watkins Park Dr., Upper Marlboro
Cost: Free!

Eastern Rhodes Public Place Opening
On this Father’s Day weekend, we invite your family and pups to Eastern Rhodes Public Place at the “V”, a temporary public park located at the corner of Eastern and Rhode Island Ave. Kids’ activities as well (special guest appearance from our Paw Patrol friend).
When: 1pm
Where: 3200 Rhode Island Ave, Mt. Rainier
Cost: Free!

HyFest
HyFest is a live music showcase put together by a group of local musicians focused on highlighting local music and the local arts scene. Good music + Cold Drinks (Beer for sale from Denizen Brewing Co. & Calvert Brewing Company). See my post about it here!
When: 4-10pm (doors at 4pm, music starts at 5pm)
Where: Polka Dot Park, 4320 Hamilton Street, Hyattsville
Cost: $15 donation (covers cost of awesome bands!)(kids under 18 are free).

Opening Reception: Transient Identity: Figure & Form
The exhibit focuses on the material investigations, and exploration of the transnational elements present in the process and productions of Lorenzo Cardim, Victor Ekpuk and Wilfredo Valladares. When: 5-8pm
Where: Brentwood Arts Exchange, 3901 Rhode Island Ave, Brentwood
Cost: Free!

Lesole’s Dance Project’s Freedom of Expression
LDP will immerse the audience into South African Culture and take them on a journey through the Zululand to Leotho with song and dance.
When: 8pm
Where: Joe’s Movement Emporium, Mt. Rainier
Cost: $25

SUNDAY 

Pride Month Screening of A Fantastic Woman (Spanish with subtitles)
Marina is a trans woman and for most of Orlando’s family, her gender identity is an aberration, a perversion. So Marina struggles for the right to be herself. She battles the very same forces that she has spent a lifetime fighting just to become the woman she is now – a complex, strong, forthright and fantastic woman.When: 1pm
Where: Old Greenbelt Theatre, Greenbelt
Cost: Free!

Greenbelt Museum
Have you visited the Greenbelt Museum yet? I haven’t yet, either. Such history there though so it’s definitely on my list! Perhaps today?!
When: 1-5pm
Where: Greenbelt Museum, 10B Crescent Rd, Greenbelt
Cost: $5 students; $3 seniors, children under 6 are free.

Lesole’s Dance Project’s Freedom of Expression

Community Yoga
