Weekend Guide: March 8th – 10th

So many cool things happening along the Route 1 corridor & Washington, DC this weekend! Will it be an International Women’s Day Concert in College Park, Bingo & BBQ in Hyattsville, theatre in Mount Rainier, mixed martial arts style exercise in Cheverly or explore artwork while listening to local bands selected by City Paper’s music editor (& beer tasting) in DC? Why not try to do them – and everything below – all this weekend?!?

Friday

Secular Humanistic Shabbat in Mount Rainier
Please join as we transition from the work week to rejoice in friends, community, the gifts of nature and stillness. Rabbi Jeremy Kridel of Machar, the Secular Humanistic Jewish congregation will be leading a kid-friendly Shabbat service at a home in Mount Rainier, followed by a vegan/vegetarian meal.

Containment Art Opening
Katie Aldworth, Jo-Elle Burgard and Lenora Yerkes have been working peripherally for years. Containment features the work of these three extremely talented female artists living and working locally.

Misprints Opening Reception
The exhibition features a diverse array of printing techniques, including etching, relief prints, screenprints, and lithographs. Mistakes exhibited are both printing mistakes—like an upside down letter or out of order layers—and process mistakes, such as over-etching a plate.

Luce Unplugged Community Showcase: Knife Wife & Jax Deluca
Explore some of the three thousand artworks in SAAM’s Luce Center while listening to local bands selected by the Washington City Paper’s arts editor, Matt Cohen. Free beer tastings (21+) from Mustang Sally Brewing Company.

WomENtrepreneurs
Join this local event organized by local women entrepreneurs for a night of networking, skills-swapping and sharing our expertise in how to get a business started, how to keep it running and how to make it a success.

MilkGirl: International Women’s Day Concert
This special night aims to celebrate the achievements and strides that women have made in the music industry with the hopes to inspire more to fulfill their dreams. All female-lineup (including Sahara, Nalani & Sarina, The OSYX, Megan & Jenna of Terrapin Record Label and Black Folks Don’t Swim? Benefiting Girls Behind the Rock Show.

Core de Force
Try Core de Force, a non-contact mixed martial arts style format that is much more than a typical cardio class for FREE at Greenleaf Fitness (see my post here about Greenleaf Fitness!)

Bingo & BBQ Night

Spinning
Check out a spin class at College Park’s own Posh Cycling & Fitness! Read a bit about more about this new spin studio in this Route One Fun post here. After class, walk to nearby MOM’s Organic Market for a post-workout treat. You deserve it! 🙂
