Hispanic Heritage Film Series: Aquí y Allá
Aquí: Pedro returns home to a small mountain village in Guerrero, Mexico after years of working in the US. He finds his daughters older, and more distant than he imagined. His wife still has the same smile. Having saved earnings from trips to the US, he hopes to now finally make a better life, and to pursue his dreams of starting a band. Allá: The villagers think this year’s crop will be bountiful. There is also good work in a growing city an hour away. But the locals are wise to a life of insecurity, and their thoughts are often of family members or opportunities far away, north of the border.

Harvest Yard Signs
Learn to build seasonal yard signs. Join our Associate-led demonstration and you’ll be shown how to use carpenter’s tools to measure and cut the wood to create fun yard decor with a Harvest or Halloween theme. Register here.

Dance Dance Party Party!
Dance Dance Party Party is a women-only freestyle exercise dance session! Come in your exercise clothes. Burn anywhere from 200-400 calories Dance your heart out to an eclectic mix of music for an hour straight. Make new friends, leave refreshed!

Live Music Thursdays: Skyline Hotel 
Eat some good Mediterranean food, support a local Mt. Rainier restaurant and get down with the pop/rock sounds of Skyline Hotel at Live Music Thursdays! Support our local music scene and grab a beer / falafel, maybe both, while you’re at it!

Matt Tarka Solo
Have you ever had a moment where you’ve realized that you were late to the party, that you’ve spent too much energy on trying to please the wrong people or you’ve been deceived by those closest to you? If the answer is yes then the rock-inflected folk music of DC-based artist Matt Tarka will speak directly to you.

Outdoor Performance Series
Catch some live music by a local performer in this new public space intended to support the vision of a sustainable, walkable, vibrant top-20 college town.

School of Music Fellowship Ensemble: Omer Quartet Debut 
The Omer Quartet, the School of Music’s new graduate string quartet fellows, performs works by Schubert, Haydn, Bartók and Mozart in their debut performance at the University of Maryland.

Lighthouse Collective with Linda Harris
Linda Harris returns to Robert Harper Books with the Lighthouse Collective playing jazz and Blues standards.

College Park ParkRun
Head out on for a weekly, free, 5K, timed run. Afterwards, enjoy a post Parkrun coffee in The Board & Brew, 8150 Baltimore Ave, College Park. All ages welcome!

Hearts in Hyattsville – A Community Paint Day!
Have you see all the new, awesome murals along Route 1?  Read abt it here & join Green Owl Design in this effort to beautify a building along Route 1 with “hearts” and “h’s” in a fun-filled community paint day!

Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live – Riversdale House Museum
Riversdale is joining museums across the country and opening its doors for free during this annual event. Find out more and print your required ticket here.

Hyattsville Arts & Ales Festival
Now in its 10th year, enjoy over 100 exhibiting artists and artisans, Maryland breweries, food trucks and vendors, and live entertainment, block by block in Downtown Hyattsville.
When: 12-6pm
Where: 3 streets of downtown Hyattsville (Farragut & Gallatin near Franklin’s Brewery)
Cost: No entry fee (bring beer and food truck $$!)

Capoeira Angola with Skher Brown & The Dancing Warriors
The whole family will be dazzled by the spins, kicks, flips and live music of this unusual art form, which has its origins in Central Africa but evolved in Brazil.  Learn a few words of Brazilian Portuguese as you join the call-and-response songs and stories.

Y’all Pendyal Jazz
Y’all Pendyal is Anuraag Pendyal on piano and Jim Lande on sax. Both sing. Anuraag is a full time musician in New Orleans playing both written and improvised music. Jim is a regular at the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation and jazz jams in the area. Together, they will play a mix of jazz, blues and pop.

Mosquita Y Mari 
For Hispanic Heritage Month, don’t miss this beautiful film from writer/director Aurora Guerrero. In a fast-paced immigrant community where dreams are often lost to economic survival, two young Chicanas contemplate life when they stir unexpected desires in each other. Screening will be followed with a discussion with UMD professors Randy Ontiveros (American Studies) and Perla Guerrera (English). When: 8pm
