Adults’ Weekend Guide! August 3rd-6th

Catch some indie rock this weekend at Riverdale Park’s Robert Harper Books!

Will it be a Freestyle Dance Party, Community Forklift’s First Friday fun? Some TGIF Yoga? Three Indie Rock bands at Robert Harper Books?  Live Jazz at Med Cafe?  Thrillbillys at the New Deal Cafe? Or maybe networking at PGAAMCC’s Forty Under 40?  If you’re like me, it’s all of the above! 😉


Riverdale Park Farmers Market
One of my fave farmers markets! Get your fresh and local produce right here! Live music, too! We love strolling around the Riverdale Park Farmers Market, buying some fresh, local produce, grabbing a bite from one of the vendors, absorbing some tunes while the kids frolic around the grounds.
When: 3-7pm
Where: 4650 Queensbury Rd, Riverdale Park
Cost: No entry fee.

Dance Dance Party Party!
Dance Dance Party Party is a women-only freestyle exercise dance session! Come in your exercise clothes. Burn anywhere from 200-400 calories Dance your heart out to an eclectic mix of music for an hour straight. Make new friends, leave refreshed!
When: 7-8pm
Where: Community Forklift Resource Room, 4671 Tanglewood Dr, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!

Live Music Thursdays: Jason Walker Duo 

Eat some good Mediterranean food, support a local Mt. Rainier restaurant and get down with the jazzy vibes of Jason Walker Duo at Live Music Thursdays! Always a fun time and can attest that their falafels, with some special sauce, will make you return for more!
When: 7:30-9:30pm

Cost: No cover charge!


Yoga in the Parks
Join us for FREE yoga classes in the beautiful outdoors! Learn basic moves to strengthen your body, increase flexibility and free your mind. Classes run Memorial Day through Labor Day and are for ages 13+. No registration is required. Namaste!
When: 9-10am

Cost: Free!

Forty Under 40 
Enjoy drinks, music, networking and a performance by featured artist: Patrick Washington aka Black Picasso. Complimentary drink with entry.
When: 6-9pm
Where: Prince George’s African American Museum & Cultural Center, North Brentwood
Cost: $5 suggested donation (suggested – no one turned away)

Forklift First Friday
We love checking out this monthly event by Community Forklift! Always live music, tasty beer (pop up a la Town Center Market), good food truck eat (El Pollo Submarine), local art, kids activities (Strolling Magician Matt Neufeld) and your chance to explore the potential of CF’s goods for sale! Wind down your long work week and prepare for an enjoyable weekend with this TGIF yoga class!
When: 7:30-8:30pm

College Park ParkRun Head out on for a weekly, free, 5K, timed run. Afterwards, enjoy a post Parkrun coffee in The Board & Brew, 8150 Baltimore Ave, College Park. All ages welcome!

Where: Paint Branch Trail, 4289 Metzerott Road, College Park
Admission: Free but please register before your first run.

Introduction to Machine Sewing – A Primer Class
Perfect for those that feel intimidated by sewing on a machine or need a refresher.
When: 10am
Where: Three Little Birds Sewing Co, Hyattsville
Cost: $30

The encampment returns with a bang this year as War of 1812 troops ready the cannon and prepare for battle. Enjoy hands-on demos, battle reenactments, children’s activities, tours and more. Snacks available for purchase. Tip: We’ve had fun at this event before – pack a picnic, set up under a tree and enjoy the events/people watching!

Indie Music in the Listening Room
Charlie Catacalos returns with a show of acoustic indie music. She’ll be joined by Weston Smith and Cinema Hearts. Three sets of live, original indie pop for only $10!

Arrow Bicycle Sunday Ride
The Sunday ride is a 32-mile, moderately paced ride that emphasizes group riding techniques. Those new to group riding are welcome as we regroup throughout the ride so that nobody is left behind. Ride starts at Arrow Bicycle. Many rides are held subject to weather so it’s a good idea to confirm dates, time and any specific requirements, too.
When: 9-11:30 am

Cost: Free!

Deaf Brunch
Deaf and hearing people socialize together using sign language. Newcomers welcome! Learn more here.

The Thrillbillys
Rockabilly, R&B and roots rock with Johnny Castle, David Kitchen, Andy Rutherford and Jack O’dell.
