Blast-in-the-Past: A Hands-On History Playground
Montpelier’s grounds are transformed into a kid-sized colonial village!  Young visitors can camp out on the frontier, design a hat at the milliners, harvest crops at the farm, and much, much more. (Runs Thursday-Saturday, 7/6 to 8/5/2017.)
When: 10am-3pm

Storytime PopUp! @ The Waterhole
Join us for stories, songs, fingerplays and more at this innovation collaboration between PGCMLS & Mt. Rainier’s fabulous organic juice & smoothie joint, The Waterhole. Best for 0-5 years old. Curious? Click here for my review of The Waterhole!

Calling all preschoolers and toddlers! Bust a move and shake your sillies out at the Bibliobop Dance Party! Bring your parents or caregivers and prepare to boogie and bop until we all drop! 
When: 3-4pm

Forklift First Friday
We love checking out this monthly event by Community Forklift! Always live music, tasty beer (pop up a la Town Center Market), good food truck eat (Honey’s Empanadas), local art, kids activities (Strolling Magician Matt Neufeld) and your chance to explore the potential of CF’s goods for sale! Come on out to Granville Gude Park and enjoy a movie for the whole family! Bring a blanket or chair, pack a picnic or grab something at our concession stand and relax for some great lakeside entertainment! Refreshments available for sale. Children under 13 not admitted without a parent/guardian.

Painting and Pancakes
Fun, artistic bonding experience for parent and child using paint as the medium while having a yummy pancake breakfast. Ages 10+

Toddler Time @ Art Works Now

Riding Bicycles to Experience Patuxent Refuge’s North Tract 
Ages 10+.  Experience the beauty of this natural area on two wheels while discovering
local wildlife, plants and historical sites. Learn the importance of reducing your footprint and leaving no trace on this 6.5-mile guided bicycle ride. Bring your own bike, energy bar/snack, water bottle and
helmet. Ride is weather dependent. Registration required – call 301-497-5887.

Teen Open Mic Dojo
Join us at our summer teen poetry slam for a battle in verse, or just come to listen to the performances with Prince George’s Teen Poet Ambassadors! Ages 13+

Smithsonian Folklife Festival
Catch the last day of this year’s Circus-themed festival, sure to entertain the young and not-so-young! Go behind the scenes to learn from generations of circus families, emerging artists and contemporary visionaries. If can, recommend taking Metro downtown.
When: 11am-5pm
Where: On the Mall b/w 7th and 12th Streets.

Whooping Crane Observatory Tour
Ages 14+.  Take a guided tour to the Whooping Crane Observatory at the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center to observe a graceful and endangered adult whooping crane.
