Storytime PopUp! @ The Waterhole

College Park’s Outdoor Performance Series! 
Check out the College Park Academy’s Canaan Dancers at this weekly outdoor performance series featuring local musicians and visual arts performers! Go support the vision of a sustainable, walkable, vibrant top-20 college town!

Forklift First Fridays!
Join in this official kick-off of the First Friday season!  Music, pop-up market, local art, food and craft beer & wine. Family-friendly (we’ve brought the kids before!), fun way to kick off the weekend and indulge in some live music, peruse cool artwork and hang with new buds!
When: 6-8pm

Berwyn Heights Day

Come join your family, friends & neighbors in our annual festivities! Fun Run, Senior Bake Sale, Pancake Breakfast, parade at noon, kids rides and games, marketplace, Mariachis, live DJ & more!

Hyattsville Soapbox Derby
Come watch these super dedicated families/kiddos race their soap box cars (A soap box car is a small vehicle built usually from scrap materials that has no motor but uses gravity alone to provide its locomotion.) Races run every 5 minutes from 9am to ~ 1:30pm with an awards ceremony immediately following.  Stop on by, take-in a race, encourage our racers or just hang out for a bit with your neighbors. All welcome! When: 8:30am-2pm

Build a Flower Pot
Build a flower pot to hold spring flowers to keep or give to Mom! Once complete, paint your project to personalize it. Tip: Get there early as supplies sometimes run out.

Rivers to Rockets Bike Rally Scavenger Hunt! 

Check out this awesomely fun way to explore the history, art, culture, and natural resources of the Maryland Milestones /Anacostia Trails Heritage Area by going on a SCAVENGER HUNT! When you arrive for the rally, you’ll be given a list of hints and checkpoints.  Some you’ll have to take a post pictures of on social media (#rivers2rockets), others you’ll need to perform a silly talk to earn a point and learn about our partner sites. 

When: 10:30 am until you’re done! Where: Leaving from Maryland Milestones Heritage Center, 4310 Gallatin Street, Hyattsville
Cost: Regular: $15; Combo (2 adults): $25; Family (up to 4): $40

Join us for this opening weekend of boating operations at Granville Gude Park.  Games, food, entertainers, hayrides, moonbounce, dance, demos, DJ, balloons & special guest characters will round out the day!

Free Comic Book Day!
Head to Big Planet Comics for FREE Comic Book Day! We took our son there last year and in addition to being super welcoming of our young’n, the owner and staff at Big Planet did a great job of directing him to age-appropriate comic books.  Support this local biz, intro your kiddo to the wonderful world of comic books!
When: 11am-6pm

Mommy/Daddy & Me Yoga
Love Yoga begins a 4-Week Mommy/Daddy & Me Series for 2-4 year olds where you can practice yoga with our little ones in a loving and fun class! There will be lots of partner poses and giggles. Space is limited; parents can register online at:

Dinosaur Park
Meet paleontologists, learn about Maryland prehistory, and search an active fossil site for 115 million-year-old remains of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals! We took the kids here and they loved it! Now – it’s pretty bare bones (pun intended); no amenities – basically an open archaeological site behind some warehouses. But if your kids have adventurous minds and love discovering prehistoric things – then it’s worth a visit. Found some really old bark that apparently was from a tree that was around during the time of the dinosaurs. What?! Said bark now rests lovingly next to kid’s toothbrush….Tip: While you’re in the area, why not also check out the Kids Room at the newly renovated Laurel Public Library. It’s really a gem, y’all!

Tiny Tots: Nature & Music 
Learn about wildlife at the refuge through fun and interactive songs, stories and activities. Parental participation is required. Read my review of Patuxent Research Refuge and its Tiny Tots program here! When: 10:30-11:15am

Community Art Drop-In: Paper Flower Garden

Fort Washington Artillery Demonstrations 
Ever wonder how Civil War cannons were fired? The Fort Washington Guard in period uniforms will demonstrate and explain the procedures used during the muzzle-loading era of American Artillery. If you haven’t been to this Park yet, pack a lunch and check it out.  Beautiful grounds and plenty of walls for the kiddos to climb and fields to run.
When: Cannon is fired on the hour at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Each demonstration takes 15 minutes.

Cost: $10.00 to enter park, program free.

Model Rocket Launches
Like to build model rockets, but don’t have a launch pad? Now you do! Anyone can bring a model (or buy a model onsite) to fly at the Goddard Visitor Center rocket launches; there are no costs or fees to participate. Stop by & get rocket launch tips from our on-site experts on launch day! Depends on weather; call to confirm. 301-286-8981
