So much going on this weekend that we’re getting a full day’s head start!  From the Riverdale Park Farmers Market, to Bladensburg’s Paddle Night on the Anacostia, West Hyattsville’s Bursting on the Scene, Open Mic in Greenbelt, Craft Beer Festival in Upper Marlboro, Mt. Riverdale Park Farmers Market
One of my fave farmers markets!  Today’s line up includes strawberries, asparagus, potatoes, spinach, kale, raw milk cheeses, free range hen eggs, delish olive oils, breads & more!  Also, today’s musician is the fantastic Charles Soloman on the harmonica!  (We love strolling around the Riverdale Park Farmers Market, buying some fresh, local produce, grabbing a bite from one of the vendors, absorbing some tunes while the kids frolic around and then we all head to Town Center Market to enjoy a tasty beer outside.

Paddle Night on the Anacostia River
Come discover your Anacostia River by joining the Anacostia Watershed Society for this fun series! AWS provides the canoes, life jackets, paddles and safety lesson: everything you’ll need to have a great paddling experience! First come, first served.  Go here to register.

Dance Party! Freestyle Exercise Dance Session!
A convening of funky women who enjoy the power and release of dance. Come and unwind, stomp away the stress, celebrate and reminisce to the songs that you love to shake your booty to! A women-only freestyle dance session.  Attend in exercise clothes.

The Most Spectacularly Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington 
If you haven’t checked this out yet, do so now – only 3 shows left!  This is truly a great chance to view some fabulously well-done theatre right here on our neighborhood!  After tonight’s performance, Artistic Ally Katie Keddell will lead a discussion with special guests Chanel Compton, Executive Director of Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural Center and Jessie MacLeod, Associate Curator of the Lives Bound Together: Slavery at Mount Vernon exhibit. All are welcome to stay and ask questions!

Join other cyclists in this one day each year when our region celebrates and promotes bicycling as a healthy alternative to driving to work.  Register here

Hyattsville’s Summer Jam!  
I heart this series so much!  Held in the parking lot of the Municipal Building, it teems with live music, a beer and wine garden (local beer from Calvert Brewing, see the review here), food, a moon bounce and the fab Mandy the Clown. This month’s band is Lenny Kurlou and KRA Band.  Great way to kick off the weekend and get to know more folks in our awesome Route 1 community!

Beyond Borders: Voices of Immigrants in Story and Music

8th Annual Hyattsville Native Plant Sale  – Buy a plant, help our students! ๐Ÿ™‚
Looking to make your garden or yard more beautiful, interesting, and inviting to birds, bees, and butterflies? Do you want to plant fruit-bearing shrubs? Or, maybe you want to replace some English ivy thatโ€™s smothering your garden. You can find all the plants you need to make these changes and more at the 8th Annual Hyattsville Native Plant Sale. All proceeds support Hyattsville Elementary School PTA and its work!

Prince George’s Book Festival 2017
This annual one-day event is celebration of the written word, and its role in improving literacy in the community. Free and open to the public featuring exhibiting authors who will sell and sign their books, panel discussions, readings, and activities for children in the special Kidz Zone.

Bursting on the Scene!  Community Mural Day at West Hyattsville Metro 
Celebrate Hyattsville and amplify public art by joining awesomely local muralists (both from Hyattsville!) Cory Stowers and Henry Portillo in painting two funky paint-by-numbers murals at the Metro Station Underpass.  Refreshments, family-friendly & bilingual, too! Please bring bottled water, paint smock/clothes, folding chair(s) and remember to wear sunscreen!

The 38th Historic Hyattsville House Tour 
The Hyattsville Preservation Association presents this year’s self-guided tour, featuring 9 homes of various styles and periods. Tour-goers will receive an informative booklet with a map showing the sites. Houses are within walking distance. There’ll also be a bus that continuously circles the tour route.

We the People (Movie) Series: Ida
As part of a series celebrating diversity in Maryland (sponsored by Maryland Humanities), Old Greenbelt Theatre presents Ida, a movie set in Poland, 1962 where two women start a journey not only to find their family’s tragic story, but to see who they really are and where they belong. Special guest speaker Leslie Swift, who has worked at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum for almost 20 years.
