Thanksgiving Weekend Fun Guide! Nov. 25th-27th

Happy Thanksgiving, y’all!  Route One Fun’s got you covered this weekend, you know – just in case you need to burn some energy/escape family/get outside…!  For the kiddos, how about an indoor splash playground, open bounce or a close encounters with some birds of prey? For those wishing to escape from your/any kids (no judgments here…), how about some post-turkey yoga at Numi, shopping locally on Small Business Saturday, sipping and sewing at Hyattsville’s Three Little Birds, and riding out the weekend with a coffee ride to Vigilante with College Park’s Proteus crew?  Sign me up! 


Black Friday Picture Frame Ornament

Join Home Depot’s hands-on kids workshop, where you and your child can build a keepsake for your holiday memories! You’ll work together to create a picture frame ornament, perfect for adding some personalized decoration to your Christmas tree. Once the ornament is built, your child can decorate it with paint & add their own photo of family fun. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

Open Bounce at PG’s Pump it Up! 
Our Pop In Play Times are open play time where your child can have the time of their life. Our massive inflatables spark their imaginations to run wild. It’s not only fun for the kids, but provides a healthy workout that burns off excess energy and helps keep them fit. It’s fun for kids of all ages.

This is the perfect place to play indoors on a cold day and exhaust the kids! 😉 Basically, an indoor water park right here in PG.  Specialized water play area for pre-schoolers with slides and spray features, family pool with water slides and spray features, a vending area and shower /changing facilities with lockers (lockers are available but require you to bring your own lock).  While parts of the facility are dated but the kids always have a blast. 
When: 6:30 am – 8:30 pm weekdays

Smaland at College Park’s Ikea

Free, 1 hour, supervised, enclosed, safe & clean play area near the entrance.  Enjoy some shopping or just relax/eat/peoplewatch at the restaurant upstairs while your young one(s) has a blast at Smaland.  Children must be potty trained and be 37” to 54” tall (so children typically b/w ages of 3-6).  Tips: (1) Best to arrive earlier on in the day as day progresses, so do the entrances lines; & (2) Join Ikea Family & kids get extra 30 minutes to play (depending on capacity) & you get free coffee!

Raptors Reign at Patuxent Research Refuge
Join special guest and licensed falconer, Rodney Stotts, as he shares the power of nature through discussions and up close encounters with birds of prey. No registration is necessary.  All ages.

Paint Branch Parkway Park Playground
Get outside and check out this recently renovated playground, rivaling any great playground you’ve been to in DC, NYC or anywhere! Among other great things, its fireman’s pole use a fun hydraulic lift to boost kids (and adventurous adults…) up and down a log plank is a blast!

College Park Aviation Museum is family-friendly and filled with hands-on, interactive exhibits. Touch, explore, and sit in the cockpit of our “Imagination Plane”, a 1939 blue Taylorcraft. Visit our hands-on room to learn about flight and to dress like a pilot. Fly away in one of our simulators or play on our outdoor pedal planes.

Numi Yoga Happy Hour Fusion Flow

17th Annual Gingerbread House Show and Contest

Proteus Bicycle Coffee Ride
Join us for our regular Sunday quest for caffeine to Vigilante Coffee in Hyattsville. Meet at Proteus at 10 am for an easy ride along the beautiful Anacostia trail system, 10-12 miles round trip, some on road riding and street crossings. Bring cash/cc, lock.  This is a no drop ride (no one left behind), gentle pace (Ave 8-10 mph). We’ll cancel for bad weather so check Facebook, calendar or Twitter (@proteusbikes) to confirm.

Single Lens Reflex-tions Exhibition
This exhibition features the work of documentary photographers turning the “lens” towards a personal project of their family, surroundings, or themselves. Bill Crandall’s “Fairy Tales from the Fault Lines” project is a dream-like vision of DC neighborhoods through the lens of a native Washingtonian. As an immigrant to the United States, Gabriela Bulisova has a complicated relationship with her native Czechoslovakia, returning at least once a year to visit her family in her mother’s hometown. Along the way, she began a very personal project in collaboration with fellow photographer, Mark Isaac, which documents her family’s life and the village around them.
