Kids' Weekend Guide: June 8th-10th


A giant slip and slide?!? Indeed - at UPES's F4 this Saturday! An evening bat walk, Arts Drop-Ins an Astronomy Star Party and more, all this weekend!

FRIDAY 

Pride Month Collage
Celebrate diversity by collaborating on a rainbow collage.
When: 10am-6pm
Where: Hyattsville Library, 6502 America Blvd, Hyattsville
Cost: Free!

STEM-Fun at Diven's Den
Check out this new-to-you STEM-inspired playroom, teaching the kiddos about life in 1800s Laurel. Curious? Read my review of Diven's Den! Afterwards, take a walk along the adjacent River Walk!
When: 10am-2pm
Where: Laurel Historical Society, 817 Main Street, Laurel
Cost: Free!

Gymnastics Workshop
This place is really great for 1-12 year olds! HUGE. Two climbing walls. Two foam pits. Tons of equipment for curious ones to explore and blow off some steam. Very clean. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parents are required to be on the floor with the children (Maximum 3 child:1 adult). Check out my review here!

Bike Decorating Fun, Parade and Ice Cream Social
Elementary aged kids can decorate their bikes and scooters inside the Armory and then join the parade on Montgomery Street. Decoration will be provided and an ice cream social will follow the parade. Bring the whole family for some old fashioned fun! Helmets must be worn.
When: 6:30pm

Movie in the Park: Black Panther
The movie Black Panther will be shown (feel free to come dressed in your favorite Marvel or Wakanda attire)! Free popcorn and drink while supplies last.

SATURDAY 

F4 Fabulous Family Fun Fiesta
Join this fabulously fun day including a giant slip and slide (wear bathing suit, bring towel), bounce houses, photo booth, face painting, hair braiding, games on the field, hot dogs & cotton candy for sale. All proceeds benefit UPES's sister school in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico so that they can have solar power installed!
When: 10am-2pm

Cost: $15/person; $50 for family of 4  

Arts Drop-In (Ages 2-10)
Arts Drop-In with Aaron Springer is a fun time for kids and parents to get creative with a variety of craft materials and an imaginative facilitator. When: 10am-12pm
Where: College Park Community Center, 5101 Pierce Ave, College Park
Cost: Free!

Spanish-English Ready 2 Read Storytime (Ages 3-5)
Stories, Fingerplays and songs will be presented
When: 11-11:30am

Screech & Kestrel
Meet two of North America's smallest birds of prey: the American kestrel and eastern screech owl. Both expert hunters, the American kestrel uses its acrobatic prowess, while the eastern screech owl is a stealthy silent hunter.

Evening Bat Walk
Join in a search for bats and other nocturnal life on this ranger lead hike.

CANCELED Astronomy Star Party!
See the Universe! Visit our observatory, look through club members' telescopes, or bring your own. Event will be canceled if it's too cloudy to see any stars. Sponsored by the Astronomical Society of Greenbelt.
When: 9:30pm
Where: Northway Fields Park, Greenbelt (Observatory is at the end of a dirt road)
Cost: Free!

SUNDAY 

Arts Drop-In at MilkBoy ArtHouse - Paint and Paper Collage 
Paint and Paper Collage: Using paper, magazine clippings, paint and colored pencils create your own unique artwork.  When: 11am-1pm
Where: MilkBoy ArtHouse, College Park
Cost: Free (though welcome to indulge in delish brunch at MBAH!)
