THURSDAY 

Riverdale Park Farmers Market
One of my fave farmers markets moves indoors for the winter! Get your fresh and local produce right here! We love strolling around the Riverdale Park Farmers Market, buying some fresh, local produce, grabbing a bite from one of the vendors and then heading to Town Center Market for a tasty beverage.
When: 3-7pm

Cost: No entry fee.

1/11 UPDATE: POSTPONED TO NEXT THURSDAY: The Art of Resistance
Work on protest art and discuss current events at our ARTivist workshop. Finished pieces can be used in preparation for the upcoming protests in D.C. scheduled at the end of January. This workshop is taught by artist Natalie Zeitz.

Rabbit Summer 
Check out this world premiere tragicomedy which examines the fracture point of a marriage and a friendship. An exploration - both tragic and comedic - of legacy, gun rights, secrets not well kept, and what it means to "live your truth" in an America built on lies. Mature audiences; explicit language/themes including gun violence.
When: 8-11pm

Laurel - MLK Day Wreath Laying Ceremony
Mayor Moe, the Laurel City Council and City Staff invite the public to attend the Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The program with begin with a few words about the importance of this event and the man it honors. It's a touching tribute and we hope to see you there!

Open Barre - $5 Happy Hour Barre

College Park - City Tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The City's annual event honors Dr. King's legacy through a keynote address, performances, art and a City proclamation. Artwork and performances from local groups, schools and community organizations are a prominent feature of the Tribute event. Free event parking is available nearby in University Lots 1b and Z all day on Saturdays (excluding home football games). These lots are about a 2-5 minute walk to the venue. Opening Reception: Civil War Soldier: Discovering the Men of the 25th U.S. Colored Troops
After viewing an antique photo album of black soldiers from the Civil War, artist Shayne Davidson researched, created a family tree, wrote a biography, and drew life-size, colored pencil portraits of each man. Davidson will speak about the book and conduct a signing from 3-4pm

Paint Branch Creek 
Check out this local acoustic musical collaboration rooted firmly in Americana. Paint Branch Creek casts a musical spell that delights fans of acoustic performance.

Performance by Betty Ladas!
Enjoy an evening of fun and song! Greenbelt's own, Betty Ladas has earned accolades in local venues and as the author, composer and producer of the "Choking Out The Kudzu" musical that was performed recently at the Greenbelt Arts Center.

MONDAY

Greenbelt - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
Join us in our Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service. Be part of a community service learning event to protect trees from beavers and invasive species! Bring Warm Clothes, Closed Toe Shoes, a Reusable Water Bottle. High School students, bring a service learning form for hours.
When: 10:30am

Hyattsville - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, all are invited to join Mayor Candace Hollingsworth for a large-scale trash and debris removal from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. We’ll be meeting in the parking lot of Northwestern High School. Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older, and should dress for the elements: long pants, long sleeves, and sturdy shoes or boots. Safety guidelines, cotton work gloves, litter sticks and trash bags will be provided. Participation can help satisfy the State of Maryland’s Student Service Learning requirement. Reel and Meal at the New Deal - Whose Streets 
On the Martin Luther King holiday, see Whose Streets, Sabaah Folayan’s 2017 film about the demonstrations in Ferguson, Missouri after the shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, by Darren Wilson, a white police officer in 2014. Jonathan Hutto, coordinator of the Prince Georges County People’s Coalition in Maryland, will lead the discussion. Come learn about police accountability in Prince George’s County on the day we honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.When: 7pm

Cost: Free admission. They offer a vegan meal for $14 at 6:30pm.
