Adults' Weekend Guide: August 10th-13th

Outdoor movies, West African Drumming & Dance, Outdoor Yoga, Dog Days of Summer, Second Saturday LectureCar & Bike Show, an Ayuerveda Workshop...And that's just to name a few! Check out all the happs this glorious weekend along Route 1, below!

THURSDAY 
Riverdale Park Farmers Market
One of my fave farmers markets! Get your fresh and local produce right here! Live music, too! We love strolling around the Riverdale Park Farmers Market, buying some fresh, local produce, grabbing a bite from one of the vendors, absorbing some tunes while the kids frolic around and then we all head to Town Center Market to enjoy a tasty beer or 5 outside.
When: 3-7pm

Cost: No entry fee.

Outdoor Movie - Central Intelligence
Nothing says summer like an evening under the stars! Pack your chairs, grab food to go from one of our delicious dining establishments, and meet us at the Plaza screen for a FREE date night movie! As movie times/dates may change due to weather, check website for updates.
When: 7pm
Where: Waterfront Street, 165 Waterfront Street, National Harbor
Cost: Free!

Buddy Attick Summer Fun Runs
Get outside and exercise! This course will take runners and walkers around Buddy Attick Park lake path for their choice of either 1.75 miles (1 lap) or 3 miles (2 laps). The fun runs are open to all runners (novices, combination runners/walkers and families). Must complete a registration form and sign a waiver prior to running.
When: 7-9pm
Where: Buddy Attick Park-Start at Youth Center, 99 Centerway, Greenbelt

Dance Dance Party Party!
Dance Dance Party Party is a women-only freestyle exercise dance session! Come in your exercise clothes. Burn anywhere from 200-400 calories Dance your heart out to an eclectic mix of music for an hour straight. Make new friends, leave refreshed!
When: 7-8pm

Live Music Thursdays
Eat some good Mediterranean food, support a local Mt. Rainier restaurant and mellow out at Live Music Thursdays! Always a fun time and can attest that their falafels, with some special sauce, will make you return for more!

FRIDAY 

Yoga in the Parks
Join us for FREE yoga classes in the beautiful outdoors! Learn basic moves to strengthen your body, increase flexibility and free your mind. Classes run Memorial Day through Labor Day and are for ages 13+. No registration is required. Namaste!

West African Drumming & Dance 
Enjoy a live drum and dance performance by The Adinkra Cultural Arts Studio and a chance to learn a few new moves yourself in Bear Square!

Capital Blues Ensemble
Catch this 7-piece modern blues and R&B band that pulls together Swing, Blues and Jazz through a solid rhythm section, hot horns, stringing guitar, pounding piano and wailing hot harp.  Phew!

SATURDAY

Dog Days of Summer
Get a professional photograph of your pet at Whole Foods Market! Professional pet photographer Sarah Rosencrans of Pooch Portrait Studio will be taking the fab pics! We'll have samples, outside snack and drinks for sale, and other fun activities. Preregister here to get free pet bandana. Each pet will receive a goody bag.
When: 11am-2pm

Cost: $5 suggested donation (proceeds benefit Rural Dog Rescue)

Car & Bike Show and Family Event 
Annual car and bike show. Top 30 cars plus bike awards and specialty trophies.Cars of Hollywood scheduled to appear. Plenty of parking on grass ball field with a/c hall and Lounge. When: 12-3pm

2nd Saturday Lecture Series - Battle of Waterloo
Robert Headley Ph.D. and town resident will speak about how the Battle of Waterloo was fought by the early 19th Century European military powers that changes the course of history.

Reception: Practico-Inert
Join us for a reception of former resident artist, Joseph Shetler (born Goshen, Indiana), a DC-based post-minimalist artist. He approaches post-minimalism with a Mennonite lens, basing his aesthetic off of ana-baptist theology and simple way of life as well as art history. When: 6-8pm
Where: Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, 4318 Gallatin Street, Hyattsville

Concert: The CrossRhodes
Raheem DeVaughn and Wes Felton are movements by themselves, but they are a force when they're together as The CrossRhodes. Both the sons of jazz musicians, Raheem and Wes mesh lush neo-soul crooning with socially conscious hip-hop word flow.
When: 8pm
Where: Bowie State University Fine & Performing Arts Center

SUNDAY 


FREE Outdoor Yoga
Outdoor yoga at Whole Foods care of Numi Yoga! Free Whole Foods juice for first 30 attendees plus raffle for an awesome gift basket with snacks and Numi goodies!

Greenbelt Farmers Market
Check out this cool & big farmers market offering produce, pasture-raised meats, sustainable seafood, soaps, crepes, ice cream, breads and baked goods, goat cheese & more! While there, let your ears soak up some Transatlantic Crossing and their fiddle-n tunes (think "toe-tapping Irish and Scottish jigs and reels!") When done shopping, head to the New Deal Cafe for some nosh and/or a coffee by Vigilante!
When: 10am-2pm

Ayuerveda Workshop
Ayurveda is a personalized approach to health, and knowing your mind-body type allows you to make optimal choices about food, exercise, and self-care that work best for you and your personal constitution. Space limited. When: 1-4pm

The 5th Cultural China 
Chinese intangible cultural heritage performance at UMD. This show is composed of solo singing, Chinese traditional dance, Peking opera, Chinese Wushu (Kongfu) and symphony pieces, with half of the performers directly from China.
When: 7pm
Where: The Clarice, UMD
