Going Out Guide: June 15th-18th

PGAAMCC's Outdoor Summer Film Series kicks off this Saturday! 
This Adults' Weekend Guide smokin' with great, new options for live music, art openings, yoga galore, wine & beer tastings, boat tours, and a new Outdoor Summer Film Series!  Another weekend lineup that confirms how awesome it is to live along the Route 1 Corridor of Prince George's County!

THURSDAY 

Riverdale Park Farmers Market
One of my fave farmers markets! Get your fresh and local produce right here! Live music, too! We love strolling around the Riverdale Park Farmers Market, buying some fresh, local produce, grabbing a bite from one of the vendors, absorbing some tunes while the kids frolic around and then we all head to Town Center Market to enjoy a tasty beer or 5 outside.
When: 3-7pm

Workshop - Concrete Serving Tray
Learn to build a concrete serving tray. Join our demonstration workshop and watch as our Associate shows you how to measure and cut wood and mix concrete to create a durable serving tray with attached handles. In addition, our Associate will also demonstrate the safe use of common project tools including a circular saw, drill and sanding block. At the end of the demonstration, Store Associates can help you shop for everything you need to create your own project at home. When: 6:30-8pm

Yoga in UP Park
Enjoy a 1-hour "flow type" class suitable for all levels.  Bring a mat, water and bug spray!

Live Music Thursdays: Superior Cling
Eat some good Mediterranean food, support a local Mt. Rainier restaurant and enjoy some fjazzy vibes by Superior Cling at Live Music Thursdays! Always a fun time and can attest that their falafels (ask for the "special sauce") & dolmadas will make you return for more!

FRIDAY

Yoga in the Parks
Join us for FREE yoga classes in the beautiful outdoors! Learn basic moves to strengthen your body, increase flexibility and free your mind. Classes run Memorial Day through Labor Day and are for ages 13+. No registration is required. Namaste!

Pre-Father's Day Wine Tasting 
John is pulling out all the stops for this Friday's Pre-Father's Day wine tasting. That means he has no idea yet what he's going to have, but will let us all know as we get closer to the date. 😂

Music Relaxation Boat Tour Along the Anacostia River 
Enjoy specialized pontoon boat rides down the scenic Anacostia River. Feel your cares melt away as you enjoy the tranquility of a sunset boat tour down the Anacostia River, accompanied by relaxing live music. You may bring your own refreshments to enjoy onboard.  Ages 12-99 years old. Trips depend on sufficient registration so call ahead to confirm.

College Park ParkRun

Edible & Raised Garden Beds - Workshop
Greet summer with a workshop that takes your garden skills to the next level as you learn to build a raised garden bed. We’ll walk you through the many varieties of edible plants that can thrive in your space and select plants that work for your climate and tastes. Then you’ll be introduced to products and tools that make caring for your garden efficient and will help your garden produce a harvest of fresh veggies and herbs.

Movin' with the Mayor - Circuit Training 
Join Hyattsville's Mayor Candace Hollingsworth and JM3 Health and Fitness for circuit training in Magruder Park!  Get ready to feel the burn with fun strengthening, toning and cardio exercises!

Annual Juneteenth Celebration 
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Bring your family, blanket and lawn chairs for a joyous day of live entertainment, genealogy workshops, children's activities, exhibitions and historical interpretation.
When: Noon-5pm
Where: Walker Mill Regional Park, 8001 Walker Mill Road, District Heights (about 30 min drive from Rt. 1 area - worthwhile for an event like this!)

Third Saturday Readings
Hosted by Sid Gold.  Authors Doritt Carroll and Barbara Westwood Diehl read from their recent & forthcoming releases.

Opening Reception: Material-Object-Form 
Attaching meaning to the things around us among the most fundamental aspects of what it means to be human.  We value many things not for what they are, but for where they came from, who gave them to us, or what they help us remember. This exhibit explores the ways that artists use these relationships to develop the content of their artwork.

Summer Saturdays Film Series - Hermanas en Ruedas by Amberly Alene Ellis 
Each Summer Saturday Film Screening will include an outdoor screening of a film created by a local filmmaker and a Q & A segment. Hermanas ventures into a country in the midst of major socio-political change to continue conversations around gender, sexuality and autonomy. Through the underground skate scene, the film questions the future of Cuban subcultures and technology amidst a backdrop of international exchanges and a drastic shift in US and Cuba relations.

Eileen Bernstein "No Place But Up" CD Release 
Come celebrate with award winning indie singer-songwriter Eileen Bernstein on her release tour. Eileen takes you up and down the peaks and valleys of life with "songs [that] make you want to tap your toes, along with touching melodies that grip your heart with their expressive lyrics," - Baltimore Jewish Times. The musical influences on her latest album are as wide ranging as Katy Perry, Evanescence, Emerson Drive, Miranda Lambert, and Alanis Morissette.

Just Stones 
A musical tribute to the Rolling Stones whose repertoire consists entirely of Rollings Stones music that will please the 'Stones connoisseurs as well as the layfan (or ladyfan as I almost wrote!)

SUNDAY

Greenbelt Farmers Market
Check out this cool & big farmers market offering produce, pasture-raised meats, sustainable seafood, soaps, crepes, ice cream, breads and baked goods, goat cheese & more! While there, let your ears soak up some Transatlantic Crossing and their fiddle-n tunes (think "toe-tapping Irish and Scottish jigs and reels!") When done shopping, head to the New Deal Cafe for some nosh and/or a coffee by Vigilante!
When: 10am-2pm

Cost: No entry fee

Coffee Ride
Our weekly ride to Vigilante Coffee in Hyattsville for caffeinated goodness. Bring cash/cc, lock. Approximately 12 miles round trip, mostly trails, some on-road riding. Helmets required.
When: 10am-12pm

Cost: Free!

Father's Day Beer Tasting & Tours at Riversdale 
Celebrate dad, grandpa, or another special gentleman with a free guided tour of Riversdale. As an extra special treat, beer lovers can visit the tasting station, where a variety of brews will be available for sampling. Free tours are limited to one free tour with each paid admission. First-come, first served.
When: 12:15-3:15pm

HCAA Art Reception - Daniel McNeill's Solo Wall Exhibit 
Join the Hyattsville Community Arts Alliance for this reception to celebrate the Solo Wall exhibition of Daniel McNeill.
